Quote from James Lileks:
"If 9/11 had really changed us, thered be a 150-story
building on the site of the World Trade Center today.
It would have a classical memorial in the plaza with
allegorical figures representing Sorrow and Resolve,
and a fountain watched over by stern stone eagles.
Instead theres a pit, and arguments over the usual
muted dolorous abstraction approved by the National
Association of Grief Counselors. The Empire State
Building took 18 months to build. During the
Depression. We could do that again, but we dont. And
we dont seem interested in asking why."

Hello,
My son was 3 on 9-11. Now 8, this morning, he asked me to keep Fox on instead of switching to SpongeBob. He had questions, and one of the main questions was why hasn't the WTC been rebuilt? He said, "they must have been built in around 1950, when technology was not as good as now, so what is the problem?". LOL, and bless the innocence of a child, he can't understand 5 years later that there is still nothing there. I really didn't have answer for him, that he could understand.
Glad to be here, MOgirl
