Russert couldn't even look at Cheney forthrightly when he said he does not bet. He looked down and away. I could swear I've heard him cast several friendly wagers - mostly about his Buff Bills, or the SuperBowl, or the Boston Eagles, or whomever-- over the years.

The point is he attempts to be such a regular, jovial guy, but wow he went stone cold on that offer from Cheney. Perhaps he didn't like the odds. Or couldn't seen to be having fun with one of the eeeeeevils.

I Yahoo searched Russert+Buffalo Bills+bet and found this on 9news.com

At the close of the debate, host Tim Russert held up a Buffalo Bills jersey and wagered the two candidates that his team would beat the Denver Broncos Sunday. Allard, who brought a Broncos jersey, accepted the bet and Strickland invited Russert to watch the Broncos win the Super Bowl. Denver won Sunday's game, 28-23.
