Polish Prime Minster Jaroslaw Kaczynski said Sunday he has cleared the air with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and they would meet again in Berlin on Oct. 30.
He told reporters in Helsinki that a short meeting between the two was "very nice" and had allowed him to explain misunderstandings, which he claimed had been created by false media reports.
"We've managed to clarify some issues that were just a matter of misunderstanding. I noticed that the chancellor had learned something from the press that was complete nonsense."
He was referring to media reports that junior coalition partner the League of Polish Families was trying to erode rights that guarantee Poland's German minority a seat in parliament. Kaczynski heads the ruling Law and Justice party.
"The press wrote that I announced I would abolish some political rights, especially political rights for the national minorities and it is untrue... In spite of the fact that Poles do not enjoy the same rights in other countries, we will uphold those rights for national minorities in Poland."
Relations between the two nations have soured since Polish President Lech Kaczynski, a nationalist conservative, came to power and Germany began a gas pipeline project with Russia bypassing Poland both last year.
Adding to these recent tensions, German organizations representing Germans who were expelled from their Eastern European homelands after World War II have been trying to focus attention on their difficulties.
Kaczynski said he and Merkel mainly discussed future meetings and his October trip to Berlin would largely cover "government consultations with elements of an official visit."
Merkel told him she was one-quarter Polish, he said, but her father had changed his Polish surname 'Kaczmarczyk' to the more German-sounding 'Kasner' at the end of the 1930s.

I'll call you names all I damn well want, you stupid troll- after the way you bashed Ireland.
Did you not read the rest of my post??????????
APOLOGISE IMMEDIATELY AND ADMIT YOU ARE WRONG FOR BASHING IRELAND!!!!
BTW, you are a Nazi - you support the EU, therefore you are!!!
That is out of line.
Go back to DU Troll!
He's infuriating, he's even worse than those Sinn Fein trolls!! :-P
I think it's getting to be almost funny. Liked your misses? Messes? Mussies? Mizzens?
Tomorrow is Talk Like a Pirate Day, you know.
Argh matie!
:-)
Ahoy, misses!
Misses are better than Frowlines!! :-P
And Bushmills is better than beer.
Yup, I never blow a gasket til someone attacks me, if you read his first post to me, his opinion of an Irish Euro-skeptic as being 'quaint'.
And then he doesn't understand my Nazi comparisons....
:-P
Make trolls walk the Kitty Plank.
Probably... I can't remember......
;)
The plank I say!
They have to be Uberkitties....
I looked over his user posts - he made remark a while back about it been 'sweet' having an Italian working in concrete.... he shouldn't be so offended when national stereotypes are thrown back at him...
Some verbal originality, at least.
Yes... I suppose.....
Gentlemen! Gentlemen! There's no fighting in the war room!
In many ways you're all right.... Well, except for all the nazi stuff.
Like the Pope has asked, let us engage in dialogue without vitriol!
Now Irish_Thatcherite...
I've enjoyed reading Atlantic Bridge's replies in other threads over the years so I'm pretty convinced he's not a troll! I don't know much about Rummenigge but I don't see anything worth getting your back up over. Supporting the EU may be an error but not sacrilege!
Now, our German FReeper friends have pointed out that the Germans have contributed to Ireland's economic success. Now, it may come as a surprise coming from me, but they're right! You may be too young to have known that.
How do you think those "Dual Carriageways" (the most awkward term for a "highway" I've ever heard) got built in the 80's? It wasn't the Irish government! The Irish government was watching many of it's University educated young people leave for the UK, USA and Australia at that time.
Yes, the roadways of Ireland were built with German money and that's a fact. Now, it may have been due to altruism.... Hitler did have some nasty things to say about the Irish! Or it could have been the German desire to have their tour busses not have to creak slowly around poorly paved roads while they enjoyed potable water from the tap and fresh water fishing. Whatever the reason, Germany was very generous to Ireland.
Now that Ireland is a net contributor to the EU, there's no reason to bash the continentals. It took two votes, but Bertie Ahern got the Yes for the EU needed to keep the socialist abomination on track. The Irish who voted No have to look no further than their neighbors when they realize that Ireland is a province once again. No, not to the Brits, but to something in many ways is far worse!
Now, as to the quality of the women... Well, I'm biased having my Dublin born wife beside me here in the USA (though she did spend two school years in Bavaria!). I spent a lot of time in Frankfurt and wasn't disappointed. However, the German flight attendant on Lufthansa chewed me out for putting my bag in an overhead in the business class when she thought I was in coach. At least she apologized and brought me a free beer when she realized her error!
I never called Atlanitc Bridge a troll.
And, we didn't need the 4th Reich to build our roads.
