And that you plied your craft, which has taken your whole life to learn, and that you must continue to learn and practice at, in cities all over the world. Let's say the "tool" you use is very rare or even one-of-a-kind, and is worth high-five figures or more. You cannot make your living without it, yet you are forced to stow it with the surfers' duffel bags, where it can easily be stolen--as indeed, these things are stolen all the time. Let's say you object.

You might be surprised to find out how many classical musicians are conservative--look what it takes: constant devotion to a craft; you are responsible for your own progress and success; if you make a mistake, especially in a concert, you are the one responsible, etc....

Excellent post and we are in 100% agreement. Why so many bootlicking FR posters find the concept of protecting a nearly-priceless antique musical instrument so difficult to understand is beyond me.
