SAN`A, Yemen -- Armed tribesmen kidnapped four French tourists in southeastern Yemen on Sunday, the latest in a series of such abductions that have embarrassed the Yemeni government.

The four were seized as they were heading to the southern port city of Aden, said Denis Douveneau, the deputy chief of mission at the French Embassy.

"We received a phone call from one of the hostages and he told us they were being treated well and were healthy, physically and mentally," the French envoy said.

He said French diplomats were in touch with Yemeni authorities "and we hope we can resolve this issue soon."

Muslims torment French?

I certainly hope they're set for food, ammo, noseplugs, and so on...

That's quite a choice of vacation spot... When I was travelling extensively I ran into people a lot with this mentality...

"Oh you know people say these muslim spots are dangerous but we don't believe a word, all those travel warnings are so overhyped. Just use common sense and you'll be fine"

Maybe there's a secret i'm not in on, but what would make anyone choose Yemen as a vacation destination, especially now?

I guess Yemen is right up there with Lebanon as far as vacation spots go.

Yeah. My first thought. WHY would any tourist want to visit Yemen?

Oooh! Ooooh! Let's visit Sudan! We can sip iced tea and lounge around while the country goes to hell in a handbasket. Beats visiting Vegas!

First they asked for the cheapest package. That was Zimbabwe, but they had heard bad things about it.

So they decided to splurge and went with the second cheapest.

But I thought the French were against the Iraq war, against Israel's attack on Hizbollah, etc.?
