COSTA MESA Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger kicked off a "Pump up your vote" campaign effort Saturday with a speech before about 150 Republican Party faithful at the Orange County Fairgrounds.
"The volunteers are so excited and we like having him in Orange County," said Mary Jean Duran, a public relations consultant and Republican activist from Newport Beach. "He should come here every week."
But Alexandria Coronado, a member of the Orange County School Board, said the turnout was small for Orange County, a Schwarzenegger and Republican stronghold.
Despite advance publicity online and in e-mails, people stayed away because the campaign demanded donations, she said.
"We could have filled that arena over there if this were free," Coronado said, pointing to the fairgrounds concert stands.
Campaign aides barred the media from the rally because it was a private fundraiser.
On Saturday, Schwarzenegger spoke while standing in front of a recreational vehicle with green and orange logos of his campaign and Generation Next, a Newport Beach group of young Republicans who have raised $350,000 for Schwarzenegger, according to the group's co-founder, Sinan Kanatsiz.

As it turns out Arnold is the lesser of two evils. So living here in California I will vote for him as the other choice is a full on disaster.

Rental at the Orange County Fairgrounds is pretty high; why they'd hold a pay to play rally there, I don't understand.
