In 1993, I was not at all politically oriented. All I really knew about Bubba was that he was an alto saxophone player, like I am (though I haven't played it since he was in office).
In downtown Los Angeles, there is a Trade Center, on Figueroa St. near the Bonaventure Hotel. I remember walking past it and wondering where the bomb damage was. (That's how much I followed politics.)
Then I heard that it was in New York's World Trade Center. I wondered at the time what it must have been like, to be there in person. Eight years later, I saw it much worse.
