There was a wholebunchalotta bomb crap going on in NYC around that time. The blind cleric, Omar Abdel Rahman, had overtaken a mosque in B'klyn and got caught up in the June 24, 1993 raid on the big B'klyn bomb factory. This same mosque was tied into the assassination of Meyer Kahane, the head of the Jewish Defense League. (another shooting assigned to a single, lone nut gunman) The 93 WTC bombing has ties here as well. Not sure if the guys with the pipe bomb in the apartment were tied to this mosque though.
