saw it last night. affleck is awesome in it. worth seeing to watch ben do his thing.

the movie itself is a little slow and doesnt really end up going anywhere. but worth seeing, if you have an extra two hours in your life you want to get rid of.

It was very good. I saw it yesterday. I recommend it. It was excellent entertainment. Afleck did a very good job.

I'd like to see it. I've never been the slightest bit impressed with Ben Affleck so it would be refreshing to see him live up to the hype for once. I saw a 5-minute blurb about this flick on TV last night and it looked pretty interesting.

"the movie itself is a little slow and doesnt really end up going anywhere."

Well that is because the case was never solved. You have to decide for yourself what must have happened. Did he kill himself or was he murdered and if so who are the likely killers. It was also a statement about cover-ups and trying to go up against the powerful. I also loved the 50's sets and costumes. Very authentic.

He was good. He conveyed the essense of George Reeves, especially in his posture and attitude.

See if Ben Affleck can do for the superman line of movies what he did for the Tom Clancy line.

IMHO movie never really made me believe there was a case, I guess that's what I meant. Ended where it started. Still, worth seeing.

p.s.: as a superman fan as a kid I loved seeing the superman filming stuff. worth it just for that. I remember watching superman after school on an old old big box tv.

The Black Dahlia
is unsolved, too, but I bet
DePalma solves it . . .

The only thing that prevents "Hollywoodland" from being a slam-dunk is that, like other films "based" or "inspired" by true stories, a certain amount of dramatic liberties have to be taken to bring the bring the story to life.

Snort. Tell that to Bill Clinton, his flying monekys, and all the folks who are sitting on their hands instead of defending a certain TV docudrama...

I give it a thumbs up. By the end of the summer it's good to get a film adults can watch. No car chase and no super action, of course superman is in it. LOL.

I also recommend the Illusionist.

Don't know where you are in West By God, but I hope these movies are playing.

There seems to be a small trend right now for "old Hollywood" themed murder movies- The Black Dahlia for instance.

Ben must have finally found a decent script.

Ha, believe it or not we have 2 movieplexes in our fair city with 12 screens each. :)

I don't go out to movies much, my hubby never goes because it is too expensive of a nap for him. He stays with the kiddos while I go with a friend. It's funny you mention the Illusionist because I think Ed Norton is in it. His films are usually great, so it also made it to my "make every effort to see" list. It will be nice to see a movie that is well written and doesn't need to rely on special effects.

Has anyone else gotten sick of movies where you barely hear the dialogue, then the music comes on so loud you can barely stand it?

Yes, even bad movies with bad directors should be able to at least have good sound, but often it is the most frustrating part of the movie.

I agree. Affleck stunned me he was so good. I'm thinking Oscar. It's unusual to see a young actor, now a days, able to pull off the charm and maturity of the old school actors. Diane Lane was also terrific. I found myself wanted the Adrien Brody parts to fast forward so I could get to their story.
