I have never seen Paul Gigot be rude. He is usually very polite and gracious. I really miss him on the political wrap-up on the "NewsHour with Jim Leher" on PBS on Friday nights. That is the only 10 minutes of the show that I ever watch and Mark Shields is getting so insufferable that I can hardly stand to watch it at all any more. Paul was even polite to him while at the same time challenging him much more often than David Brooks.

His "rudely interrupted" means he just hated to point out the gloomy possible alternative.
As in "Speaker Pelosi".
