I am not usually in the habit of defending Geraldo but he probably did not mean "courageous" in the tradition sense. He probably meant to say something like "bold". Let's be fair, I don't thnk Geraldo has any love or romatic inclinations for Al Qaeda.

I doubt the WW2 Navy gunners at Okinawa used either words, courageous or bold, for the Kamikazi pilots.

They were dedicated, single minded fanatics who committed an evil act. They did not show courage they showed ruthlessness. Big difference.
