I found the comment by her husband pretty weird:
"We were going to take Jet Skis out, have a couple of romantic dinners. It is very disappointing," said Mayo.
Is this from earlier - when she was still missing? (REALLY weird)
Is this from after they found her? (Still weird).

One of the women who was kidnapped with Jessica Lynch (I hope I'm thinking of the correct episode) had her feet purposely cut on the bottom by her captors.
When it was reported, I got the impression that this was fairly common: 1) to keep the prisoner from escaping easily and 2) the captors seemed to enjoy the pain it inflicts.
