Israel knows full well that any "treaty" will be broke. They need to hype this stuff to the max and when the muzzies break it....go all out.

Won't happen...because Olmert is going to be out on his ass in short order. He's the Clinton of Israel...can't pull the trigger when it needs to be pulled.

Omert is a politician first and a human second. While it is a slick move as it takes away the excuse of the Hizbullah, the Hizbullah will just come up with a different excuse. However Israel has now given strength to the idea that the land does not belong to Israel.
In reality, the land was Syrias not Lebanons before the war so Omert is offering something from party A to pay off party C.
Reality need not apply to politicians, but it does tend to bite you in the butt anyway.
Perhaps Omert should offer his million dollar house, It would be refreshing to see a politician offer his own home instead of his neighbors for a change.
Nobody cares if the Hizbullah has an excuse.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has signaled that Israel might cede the disputed Chebaa Farms area to Lebanon if the Lebanese carry out all provisions of their cease-fire with Israel, including the disarming of Hezbollah guerrillas, Israeli media reported on Friday. Now's that's good thinking, especially since the Gaza giveaway went so swimmingly.

It will never happen and Olmert knows it. BUt it throws it into Hezbollah's lap.

Olmert will cede the "Chaba Farms" sector when the Lebanese sign an agreement that "locks in" their commitment to disarm the Hezbollah terrorist army. Israel will make yet another territorial concession in the face of terrorist threats, Lebanon will not even begin to enforce the provisions of the agreement. Iran will rearm both Syria and Hezbollah with much more and more effective weaponry, including anti-aircraft missiles. Ah, isn't diplomacy the better way to resolve our differences?

I doubt it. The coalition government has still refused to go against him, and Olmert is appointing a whitewash committee a la 9/11 commission.
Of course the majority of Israel wants him out at this point and want a full state inquiry, but Olmert refuses to conduct one.

"Olmert will cede the "Chaba Farms" sector when the Lebanese sign an agreement that "locks in" their commitment to disarm the Hezbollah terrorist army."
No read it again. Olmert will "discuss" Chebba Farms only after Lebanon "carries out" all the provisions and only if the UN says the farms are part of Lebanon. As it is now the UN says the Farms are Syria's. So neither Lebanon nor Syria will be getting their mitts on Chebba Farms until Hezbollah is fully disarmed and all the rest of the provisions of the resolution are met. I think Olmert is being pretty cagey on this.

Olmert is a fool and the good folks of Israel are following this fool?

This guy needs to have his head examined--after he leaves office. This will just embolden the terrorists. BTW--wasn't one of the cease fire provisions that Israel would get its soldiers back?

Short order? The next scheduled elections are in March 2010. So he has to resign or lose a confidence vote to leave office before then.
Do you have any reliable information about how a no confidence vote in the Knesset will turn out or do you just have your fingers crossed?

I thought the issue was a dispute between Syria and Israel? The underlying dispute is between Syria and Lebanon, Israel makes no claim to Sheeba farms. Israel's position has been that as long as Syria maintains a claim, the issue can only be resolved in the context of negotiations with Syria. IMO the same standard should apply to Lebanon. If, as they have, Syria cedes Sheeba farms to Lebanon, let Lebanon negotiate their return. My guess a peace treaty and recognition of Israel's right to exist would have done the trick, but that's something Lebanon isn't willing to do.
