Mark Steyn: Straight-talking PM (Howard)
The Australian ^

In comparison with the US and Britain, the Howard Government's policies and pronouncements on the main issues facing the West are setting a refreshingly honest example
JOHN Howard was quoted approvingly on a US radio show last week. Big deal, you say. He's a prime minister; what does he care if some rinky-dink talk-jockey recycles a couple of sound bites?
Well, the radio host in question was Rush Limbaugh, and Rush has more listeners than there are Australians. That's to say, about 25million or so listeners, which is more than the number of Australians in Australia and Lebanon combined.

Not to dis Rush's ability, but listening to that episode with Steyn was an amazing intellectual exercise.

And he racked up the most views of any Rush thread posted on Free Republic. I think he would rock with his own show if he is intrested. Of course writing and broadcasting may be more then he can take on. I understand preping each day for the broadcasting takes up a lot of the Hosts time

"So, when the US President insists on reprising the line week in week out, he begins to sound utopian, if not utterly deluded. American conservatives would appreciate a rationale less hermetically sealed from reality."
Note to the President: Peggy Noonan has given up on the treacle and taken a hard edge. It's time you did the same.

Obviously Australia is, in one sense, a small, distant nation and thus has a freer hand on Iraq than the US and on the wider jihad than Britain, which is in danger of turning into Somalia with chip shops That's going to leave a mark...

"Just as the advantage of federalism is the local experimentation it allows..."
Alas and alack, American placement of the Constitution as a whole into an inferior position of one of its parts, the Commerce Clause, has in effect destroyed the Republic and in fact rendered 'local experimentation' doornail dead. Ah, well, it was a great 230 years.

He recently filled in for Rush Limbaugh (on August 24th) and he was great! Agreed! I sent Rush a note suggesting more of Mark on fill-in host days.

Note to gcruse: The President has long ago given up the "religion of peace" statements and is more into things llike "cold-blooded killers" and "Islamic fascists."
I do think that a few years ago, when we were trying to get people like Jordan and Pakistan on board, it was prudent to not insult them. It seems as if the President has finally found the phrase that conveys the evil of the enemy without alienating Muslim allies, and that is a good thing.

Please find this phrase from Mark in the article. Mark's context deals with what I refer to.
