Six of the world's powers concluded Thursday that Iran has not met a U.N. Security Council demand to suspend uranium enrichment, a move that could lead to sanctions. "We had a first discussion of next steps in the Security Council following the lines of resolution 1696," Reuters quoted a diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, as saying. The diplomat took part in the meeting of senior officials from Germany, France, Britain, the U.S., Russia and China, taking place in Berlin.

Does anybody on earth believe the Iranians have stopped refining uranium? Does anybody on earth not believe the Iranians are either building the A-bomb or already have some?

"I don't expect any changes," M.H Nejad Hosseinian, Iranian deputy minister for international affairs at the ministy of petroleum, said in Singapore. Hosseinian was speaking at the "LNG Supply for Asian Markets" conference in the city-state. "Winter is coming and there has not been big changes in prices in the market," Hosseinian said. "Price changes would depend on political issues. If there are sanctions on Iran prices will rise," he added. At their June 1 meeting in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, OPEC decided to maintain production quotas at 28 million b/d.

Algerian oil minister Chakib Khelil on Wednesday noted that there was a consensus within OPEC to maintain current production ceilings. OPEC-10 produced 27.62 million b/d in July and total OPEC output, including Iraq, came in at 29.69 million b/d, according to a Platts survey. Separately, Hosseinian said he did not expect the United Nations Security Council to impose sanctions on Iran. "I don't think that the security council will put any sanctions on the oil and gas industry because it will damage all of the world, not only Iran, as prices of oil and gas will surely increase," he told delegates. "Also, Iran is one of the most important players in the oil industry so if they stop us [from making] more investments in the oil industry in the long-term prices will increase," he said.

Does anybody think that Iran should be entombed in a giant glass coffin?

What makes me especially mad is that they're depending on our need for THEIR oil to keep us from sanctioning them. We can afford it, but the other countries won't go for it. Germany in particular.

I'd love to see a movement for parking our vehicles and biking or bussing to work. Bonus: higher resale on your low-mileage vehicle! Shoot, I'd do it.

Yes, and with all that sand let's make a few castles for 'em. Miniature oil derricks would be cute and little tiny Taj Mahals.

It's the arrogance that !#%^!^ me off. I'd sooner park my Honda than let them play blackmail like that. Their oil wouldn't be worth a plug nickle if they couldn't sell it. It doesn't keep forever, ya know?

Seriously, it's so childish. To win, all we have to do is say, "oh yeah? Well, we don't want your stinking oil anyway."

And this is why Israel will not attack Iran. This is also why the minute Iran can strike Israel they will. They will hide behind the UN and their oil.

The quicker we can get our oil into the pipeline, the quicker we can telll the ME to go pound sand.

Too bad nobody would listen to W about Alaska in 2000. It'd be flowing by now.

Well, they aren't building one if they don't have highly-enriched uranium. And the only way they got that is if they bought it. So I'll raise my hand.

I guaran-dam-tee you, the minute the U.S. takes any military action to deprive Iran of nuclear capability, the rest of the world will scream that there was no evidence it was developing nukes.

I was going to tell them, "I know you are but what am I?"

If that didn't work, I'd break out "Your Mama!"

~SNORRFLE!~ It's so simple, but you won't see the limousine liberals clamoring to boycott foreign oil.
