It'll be successful...at least artistically. Placido Domingo will ensure that much.

$6mil? That's one heck of a production for Opera. I would sure like to see it.

The Ring is probably the most ambitious Opera ever written and the music is AMAZING, not to mention the story. If you're an opera fan, you have to see it at least once in your lifetime. Remember, the modern theatres have subtitles:)

I've seen Die Walkure when I lived in Vienna. They had the whole cycle spread out over the course of the season, and I really wanted to go to all of them, but for some reason I didn't make it to them all (too much traveling around, I think).

Staging the enire cycle is indeed ambitious. I hope the L.A. Opera is up to the task.

If you think about it, it is not much money. The Ring is four HUGE operas. This cycle alone is more than many opera companies' entire seasons and 6 mil for a whole season isn't much.

Also, what other operas are they going to do for the season that they show the Ring and how much of that season's budget is going to be used for the Ring?

They will certainly have to do more fund raising.
