The breach between Ehud Olmert and Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz is final and irreconcilable

Prime Minister’s Office and the Defense Ministry failed to inform Halutz about the decision to lift the air, sea and land blockade of Lebanon the following day. The chief of General Staff and other generals heard about the decision – which Halutz was vehemently opposed to – through the media. Olmert is now frankly telling his cabinet ministers and confidants that Halutz “was not a good military adviser to the prime minister during the Lebanon war,” although this is one of his primary functions. The prime minister is also accusing the chief of staff of having pressured him to approve the Israeli Air Force offensive at the outset of the Lebanon War persuading him that the air force could achieve a quick win. Perhaps General Halutz should run against Olmert for the Prime Minister's position?? Or is that possible in Israel???

For my money, Olmert appears to be an incompetent boob.

Debka's reliability is inversely proportional to the distance traveled from the wealthier north suburbs of Tel Aviv.

On this matter, while 95% of the time I believe Debka is full of merde, seems reliable because the Debka guys apparently have some pulse on the Tel Aviv political class's actual going ons.

Will the lesson be that the democracy of Israel can not sustain itself without a democratically elected leader with a strong military background? That conclusion would be better than the opposite, that the military must become even more subservient to the sycophantic political class that controls the government at anny given time.
