Oh, don't worry with yellowdoghunter.

She has ALL kinds of issues, up to and including believing she's the be all end all mother, homemaker, moral authority, political maven, and your basic all around snotty poster; she is also our resident PRUDE.

Most of us think it's because she didn't get picked for a sorority in high school (don't think she went to college at all).

She has issues with OTHERS, especially women.

She also believes people who respond to her snotty replies are STALKING her, so be prepared for that.

As my grandmother use to say, if you have to keep telling people how swell you are, you probably aren't, which I believe is YDH's real problem.

Evidently she comes here to work out her personal issues.

Here's the deal. There are lousy boomers. There are great boomers. The same can be said of every generation.

You're touting your own generation as the best thing since...well...whenever. You're asking boomers to justify their existence.

Suppose you do the same. Explain how you're bettering the world. Explain what you are doing that is so superior to the boomers.

Keep in mind that everyone in power now is a boomer, for the most part. That's not going to change for a few years. The boomers have brough conservatism back into power, even if it's incomplete.

Again, what is it, exactly, that you are doing that is so terrific? See if you can convince some of us boomers that you're a great guy, doing great things for America.

I'll be watching for your list of accomplishments.

Me too, I have "issues" with X'ers. LOL

On another issue, this "boomer" just found out he is a grandparent again. (2nd)

My new grandchild won't be born for another 8 months. But I have hope for that generation.

I have five under six years old! They are swell, aren't they?

Regardless of what these doom and gloomers say, we did a good job.

If it wasn't for us, some of these people wouldn't have a computer to sat at and whine all day long.

Back when I was a mother, I didn't have TIME to waste my day doing anything except taking care of my son or working; these "mothers" today seem to have all the time in the world, huh?

The baby boomers were the first generation to have their rebllion pandered too completely and unrestrained...

Its not that every generation doesn't rebel to a certain extent.. its that the Boomers rebellion was largely pandered too...

And for the record.. yea the Weather Underground, Woodstock, 68 DNC convention, Kent State, Berkley.. yea, yea, those were all things that NEEDED to be rebelled against.

Boomers "rebellion" was more about getting laid than anything else... bunch of idiotic dupes the KGB played like the suckers they were.

Well with Katie Couric showing what "BOOMERS" think news should be.. .and bubba showing what a good portion of the Boomers stand for.. I don't hold a lot of hope for them to "end strong"..... but.. We'll see.

What she's doing is condemning an entire generation of people. And this from someone who actually posted this:

America was never perfect, I have said that many times. Life was better for children (yes, even Blacks). Do you think most black children who grow up in the ghetto are better off now because they can use the same drinking fountain as I?
And you can rest assured that many of us are making changes in our world. Who just took over Congress for the first time in 40 years? Conservatives! It is a cycle, thank God, and things seem to be turning back the other way.

And in the meantime, a whole lot of boomers were in the military, fighting another war. Had you forgotten those boomers? I thought so.

Others were laying the groundwork for the computer you're typing on. Still others were becoming doctors, missionaries, ministers, and other folks.

Might want to check out who the leaders and players in the movements that changed those things were.... cause it sure wasn't the boomers, but their parents ONCE AGAIN who drove those movements and changes.

Rosa Parks and MLK sure weren't boomers.. Amazing how Boomers want the credit for their parents achievements.

The Baby Boomers continue to show how society should NOT behave.

And you arrive at this conclusion by way of a press release from the Ministry of Propaganda?

These statistics are the result of SAMHSA surveys. These are household surveys, conducted in the home, and can tie the admission of illegal behavior to an individual person, address and telephone number.

Many respondents are aware that providing incriminating data to a surveyor holds risk. Media reports regularly describe the proliferation (and compromising) of databases containing private information; this is likely to condition survey respondents to ask themselves whether their answers could potentially end up in a database connected to their name. It begs credulity to assume that a vast majority of informed adults would be reliably honest about their use of illegal drugs.

The survey results over the past several years reflects the rising public awareness of the danger of answering these surveys honestly. Younger respondents are more aware of the danger than baby boomers are.

"Do you think most black children who grow up in the ghetto are better off now because they can use the same drinking fountain as I?
"

Hmm...so yellowdoghunter is a person of the female persuasion? I did not know that.

This sentence of hers is particularly poignant to me. I'll say this about her statement. Condi Rice, a boomer, could never have become Secretary of State without the efforts of all the other boomers, like myself, who worked to make it possible for those black children to drink out of yellowdoghunter's fountain.

Do all black people have the same opportunities as white folks? Not really. Not yet. But, Condi Rice does. Imagine a Condi Rice in her position in the 1950's, when the boomers were still in grammar school. I can't imagine it.

It's good to be young. I remember that very well. When I was young, I served in the military. I went to college. I began my career. Did I use marijuana? Yes, I did, but I gave it up in my late 20s and set about doing worthwhile things.

This article says that 4.4% of boomers used drugs, mainly marijuana. 4.4%. So? Heck, I take drugs myself these days. A statin for my cholesterol, a calcium-channel blocker for my blood pressure, and various vitamins and minerals. I even have a couple of glasses of wine with my supper.

4.4%. I noticed that the article didn't cover the gen-x drug use. They had the gen-y's drug use in there, though...way higher than the boomers. Fascinating.

Yup, them gen-xers are the salt of the earth. No question about it, eh?

Just an additional note, from the article, to add to my last post:

"Among the 18-25 group, drug use rose from 19.4 percent to 20.1 percent."

Uh-huh....

The 26-25 age group wasn't in there, now was it. I'd be interested in their figures.

Boomers...just 4.4%. Yup, we're a bunch of stoners, all right. Feh!

Mineral Man,

Of course there were good folks in the Boomer Gen.. but again you try to claim things not your own... the IC was not developed by a Boomer at AT&T (1958) and Neither was the Computer Eniac went online in 1946, they've certainly been improved over the boomers adult lives, but hardly did they develop them... I don't think any toddlers were involved in the developing of ENIAC, and I really don't reacal any pre teens or teens on the development team for the IC.

When you look at the societal legacy of the Boomer generation, you see that the foundations of american culture and life were hugely undermined during your watch.

Abortion, Divorce, Cut N Run, the removing of Religion from the public square, the rise of moral relativism, etc etc etc all happend during your watch.

Doesn't mean all Boomers were bad people, or wicked or evil. The fact we deal today with 30 or 40% of the population who believe that we should run away from an enemy that killed thousands of civilians in a cowardly attack shows exactly how far things have fallen. That is the legacy of what started when the commies infiltrated the foundations of this nation in the 50s and 60s.

I don't hate all boomers, not remotely... but its very difficult to see what they have squandered and not judge it in a less than flattering way.

She's a class warrier; probably lives in a trailor is my guess. Successful people don't typically condemn an entire generation of people.

Educated people don't typically think that maybe it's not a good thing that black can use the same water fountain as whites.

She sounds jealous at the financial success of boomers who have contributed more in tax dollars which funds social programs for the needy than any other generation on earth. Gives more to charities than any other generation on earth. Boomers have taken part in developing medicines which save more lives than ever believed possible. Boomers did more to bring about civil rights for people of color than any previous generation, something she clearly doesn't approve.

I'm sure it's a long list of Baby Boomer achievements but she'd rather play the class card, just like she played the race card.

That she has to pretend that boomers and people on FR are all involved in divorce, drugs, etc., says more about her mind that anything else she could say.
