Pelosi Is Non-Partisan About 9/11 For A Half Hour
Sweetness & Light ^ | September 7, 2006 | N/A

Judging from the rictus smile from her plastic surgeries, you wouldn't think that Nancy Pelosi would be able to talk out of both sides of her mouth. But she does quite regularly.

As she does here, in two press releases issued almost within a half hour of each other.

The first, from the Rep. Pelosi who is so eager to rise above petty politics:

Pelosi Urges Hastert to Bring Bipartisan 9/11 Resolution to House Floor

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi sent the following letter to Speaker Hastert this afternoon urging him to work with Democrats to write a bipartisan resolution marking the anniversary of September 11.

Below is the text of the letter:

September 6, 2006

The Honorable J. Dennis Hastert

Speaker

United States House of Representatives

H-232, The Capitol

Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Mr. Speaker:

The fifth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks next Monday provides an opportunity for the House of Representatives to act in a united way to honor those who lost their lives on that day, to honor their families, to give comfort to those who survived, and to show our resolve to make our nation as safe as we should be. I understand that plans are being made for a bicameral observance on Monday on the steps of the Capitol, and I look forward to participating in that event.

Notice has been given to Democrats that the House will consider a resolution marking the anniversary, but as yet we have not been provided with a draft of the text. The contents of this resolution, and the circumstances surrounding its adoption, will influence the public's perception of the way the House has treated this solemn day. I am sure you agree this occasion, and this resolution, should not be politicized.

Last year, the House passed by a vote of 402 to 6 a bipartisan resolution that struck an appropriate balance among the messages that need to be sent on such an occasion. I suggest that, rather than negotiate an entirely new text, we use last year's resolution for consideration by the House this year, as updated where necessary. Proceeding in this manner would send a clear signal that the House understands that, when it deals with the September 11 attacks, we tread on sacred ground and that our remembrance must reflect that fact.

Thank you for your consideration of my views on this critical matter.

Sincerely,

Nancy Pelosi

House Democratic Leader

The second from her evil twin, the much more familiar partisan hack Nancy Pelosi:

Pelosi: Five Years After 9/11, We Are Not As Safe As We Should Be

9/6/2006 8:02:00 PM

To: National Desk

Contact: Brendan Daly or Jennifer Crider, 202-226-7616, both of the Office of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined other House Democratic leaders and Former Congressman Tim Roemer, a member of the 9/11 Commission at a press conference this evening to discuss the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks:

"Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I am honored to be here with you, back in Washington, and I join you in welcoming Mr. Tim Roemer. I was pleased to be part of nominating him to be a member on the Commission. It was appropriate because he was the author of the legislation to form the 9/11 bipartisan independent commission. It was resisted by the White House and now the recommendations of the commission are resisted by the White House.

"Democrats are calling for a New Direction. We take very seriously our responsibility to protect the American people. Five years after 9/11, two years after the 9/11 Commission recommendations, and one year after Hurricane Katrina, our first responders, fire and emergency services personnel, still do not have the technology of real-time communication to save lives. Five years after 9/11, we still do not have 100 percent screening at our ports, we still do not have a mandate for chemical and nuclear plants to safeguard them, we still have not brought anywhere near what we need to of fissile material that poses the biggest danger to the safety of the American people. Our ports are not secure, our borders are not secure, and our country is at risk. We could be safer.

"That's why my colleagues and I sent a letter to Speaker Hastert the other day to say that in order to honor 9/11, we must immediately pass the 9/11 Commission recommendations. It's urgent and the suggestions are well-founded, based on a factual assessment of risk and the prospect of their success.

"Democrats believe that a new direction for America is needed to protect the American people."

Lest we forget this is the same Nancy Pelosi who regularly excoriates President Bush for "playing politics" with the war in Iraq -- and indeed, every other topic he raises.

The 9-11 attacks were not the result of being involved in wars that we should not have been, it was the result of NOT being involved in a war that we should have been.

Domestic security will come from ridding the world of the scourge of Islamonazism.

The typical scourge (in Latin: flagrum; flagellum is the English derivative) has several thongs or lashes attached to a single handle, Compare in the Scottish tawse (equally leather, but usually only two or three and without a separate handle) and the cat o' nine tails (the well-known naval version was made from thick ropes, often with knots; the army and prison version usually from leather).

There are people who are planning to stay home in Novemeber rather than cast votes that will keep her from that position. Talk about having your head up your tuchis...
