He has consistently used this strategy in every election.

As was mentioned up thread you will notice that his April/May/June numbers are always in decline. The Democrats begin to yell loudly all summer about what an incompetent he is. The msm begins to write his political obituary. Even conservatives start to whine and complain. He hangs out in Crawford and irritates the journalists and Cindy Sheehan. Frankly it shocks me that this thing still works! It's not like it's a secret.

After Labor Day, when everyone is home from vacation he comes out swinging, leaves everyone cheering and the dems looking weak and ineffective.

It's actually not about being brilliant as much as looking for behavioral patterns. People become really predictable after you observe them for a while. We're all kind of creatures of habit.
