none of this amounts to anything but political rhetoric.

Did I miss something? Did the US become a dictatorship or is it still necessary to convince voters and get them to vote the way you want them to?

HELLOOOOOOOOO. Monday was Labor Day. The President just used the bully pulpit to frame the debate over what we do with these detainees as a war issue, not a criminal issue. He made it much more difficult for the Democrats to stake out a position that won't get them in trouble with somebody. He gave Republicans some fine talking points. He did exactly what the party leader is supposed to do - wrapped up with a nice big ribbon.

True, he could have done all the legislative and executive work without the speech. But politics is still required to win and hold this country.

Nothing wrong with political rhetoric. About d@mn time, if you ask me.

Shalom.

The election season began this week. This speech, one of a series, by focusing on the legal challenges of the political oppoosition, was entirely political.
