Pakistan: Bin Laden Not Safe Under Truce
NYTimes ^

Filed at 8:53 a.m. ET ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) -- Pakistan said Wednesday it will capture Osama bin Laden if it finds him in the country, despite the government's recent peace deal with Islamic militants in a remote, violence-battered region on the Afghan border. ''Pakistan is committed to its policy on war on terror, and Osama caught anywhere in Pakistan would be brought to justice,'' the country's top army spokesman told The Associated Press. Pakistan's government and militants -- believed to support bin Laden's al-Qaida terror network and the Taliban militia -- on Tuesday signed a peace deal with the government, aimed at ending years of violence in the rugged North Waziristan tribal area. Some observers have expressed concerns that the pact could provide a haven for militant leaders like bin Laden, or that it proves the Pakistani military unable to crush an insurgency on its own soil. ''The military was not in a position to defeat the tribes,'' said Pakistani political analyst Rusul Basksh Rais.

Didn't name the Pakistani Army Spokesman. Is this the retraction of the comment from last night?

The fact that bin Ladin has not been on video for eons and that #2 and his new California side kick now do all the videos is curious. Bin Ladin is either too ill to be seen on camera or he is dead. Someone once told me that if bin Ladin was jaundiced because of his need for dialisis in the Muslim world that is considered "weakness"...so maybe that is what is up here.
I suspect sooner, rather than later we will find him. The fact that GW mentioned him by name may mean we are closer than we have been as to where he might be hiding.
I have heard nothing about his son Said bin Ladin other than he went into Lebanon from Iran during the Hezbollah thing .

Define "the country." Does that include North Waziristan? (or however that hole is spelled.)

I do wonder if the truce is really a way to cede sovereignty over the area so that the US can act in Waziristan without conducting military action in Pakistan.

LIke I posted yesterday when the ABC NEWS Blog written by Brian Ross stated Bin Laden was getting a pass from Pakistan, ABC news and Brian Ross should never be trusted again. Brian Ross is a joke of a reporter that does not do his research. He likes to run hit pieces without all the facts. How many times do people have to be duped by him and ABC before they quit believing the crap they print?

Waziristan has been an "autonomous region" dating back to when the British controlled India.

I get this feeling this was another MSM trick to try to put a wedge issue between us who support the WOT.

I believe you predicted 24 hours to a retraction. This was about 12.

Pay up.

This was the media's own spin on the Pakistani position on the taliban living inside their country.

It was about the taliban, not about OBL, per se.

You have it exactly right and the spin is designed to undermine our President and our military.

"Look, OBL ...I'll keep running with this stuff, but it'll cost you another half mill .. I'll have my lackey pick it up at the usual drop site. And for pete's sake, don't address it to ali Ab-Seemi again."
