Has anyone else heard of this system and is it really as effective as this article purports?

It sounds like a great way to tear up dismounted infantry around the armored vehicle.

I would think that a shotgun might be usefull in exploding the RPG before it hits.

I bet it struggles with false positives in an urban environment. Firing on auto exhausts might be looked down upon.

The best countermeasure against RPGs is the gunners in a patrol watching their sector and pouring automatic weapons fire at the jihadi preparing to fire the RPG.

The primary problem with this system and the way it works is that it poses an enormous threat to foot troops in the vicinity. The IDF operates in a very different way than the U.S., with tanks working independantly, sometimes alone, and very far off from their men with boots on the ground. We often combine the two.
Phrased differently, this system would create far too many "friendly fire" incidents.

Uh, if this system is so great, why isn't Israel using it? Preponderance of IDF deaths in Lebanon were due to anti-tank missiles.

On the "FutureWeapons" show on The Discovery Channel, there was a short
bit on the defensive capabilities of the NLOS cannon platform.
IIRC, it was for identifying and neutralizing things like infantry threats,
including missle/RPG.
Sorry I can't give more definitive description, but it was a blip after
talking about all the other admirable features of the system:
