The Democratic National Committee is again calling for Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-R.I.) to denounce a television ad created by the National Republican Senatorial Committee that criticizes Chafee's primary opponent for supporting a controversial Mexican identification card.
The ad criticizes Cranston, R.I., Mayor Steve Laffey for allowing city law enforcement to accept Mexican "Matricula Consular" identification cards that the Department of Justice has said opens the door for terrorists to live in the country undetected.
In a news release issued last week, DNC spokesman Damien LaVera said the ad "relies on divisive, misleading innuendo that Mexican immigrants will carry out acts of terrorism against government buildings and airplanes."
The ad, which according to the NRSC is no longer airing due to natural advertising cycles, says that "millions of illegal Mexican immigrants" use the card as identification in the United States. The ad is available for viewing online.

Very clever. Denouce it so it generates more coverage and more people see it. Very clever DNC
The Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot over this.
What is it about stopping the flow of illegal immigrants that scares politicians. Do right by the people and the people will continue to pay you.
The viceral reaction the dems have to anything to do with illegal immigration should be telling the Republicans something about this issue. It has told Santorum something about it and for some reason his race with the stiff has tightened.
Round up the illegals and send them home.
Levy fines for those who hire them or rent property to them.
Put some of our military on the border and put a stop to the illegals.
Or I'll vote for someone who will. Republican, domocrat or independant.
The RSCC is running an ad saying Laffey is to pro-illegal-immigrant? Didn't Chafee vote for the pro-illegal-immigrant senate bill?
You are right Chafee voted Yea. If anyone from Pennsylvania is reading this Rick Santorum voted Nay.
This is what really annoyed me about the RSCC Ad campaign. I didn't really mind that they were using RSC money against a challenger, because they ARE the SENATE committee and their first job is to protect incumbent senators from our party.
But I didn't like that they ran ads that lied, and that mirrored DEMOCRAT TALKING POINTS against a republican. Like complaining that Laffey was a friend of big oil, or this immigrant ad.
I guess they realised that running an Ad campaign touting what Chafee had actually DONE would be a bad thing for their candidate in the primary. But all they did was hurt Laffey for the general election.
