Just read "Making Race and Nation" by Anthony Marx, President of Amherst College. It's a comparative study of "racial domination" in the United States, Brazil, and South Africa. His conclusion is that the North was "complicit" in the establishment of Southern segregation, (although not a single word of proof is presented for this theory, and 300,000 Union soldiers died in the cause of abolition). He characterizes Abraham Lincoln as a racist who used the term "nigger" and advocated repatriation of freed slaves to Liberia. The terms "affirmative action" and "reverse discrimination" are never used, even though he describes events in South Africa leading to the end of apartheid which occurred after 30 years of affirmative action had been practiced in the United States. He equates US racial relations and policies with those in South Africa.
