Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre was the victim of child abuse and was nearly killed via euthanasia when Massachusetts officials gave up on her after she entered a coma. Now Poutre, once termed "brain dead" by doctors, continues to improve and is speaking a few words, her grandmother says.
Sandra Sudyka, the girl's biological grandmother, is no longer allowed to visit her granddaughter and now says she is ready to speak to the media about Poutre's condition.
She told The Republican newspaper that she last saw Poutre on July 18 but indicated she was "doing well."
"She was bright-eyed and smiling. She is always responsive to us," Sudyka explained.
Department of Social Services had asked Sudyka not to talk with reporters about Haleigh, but since they will no longer allow her and Haleigh's biological mother, Allison Avrett, to visit the 12 year-old, she said she's going to talk to the media.
"I decided since they broke the deal, I am going to talk. People should know how well she is doing," Sudyka told the newspaper.
"They don't want people to know how she is doing after they wanted to pull the plug," Sudyka said.
DSS spokeswoman Denise Monteiro declined an interview with The Republican but said that the visiting privileges have been suspended, not terminated.
Haleigh first began speaking in June, her grandmother told the newspaper.
"I was saying to her 'I love you,' and she was trying to say 'love' and it came out as a vibration...'ove,'" Sudyka said.
Sudyka, who is working with an attorney to adopt the girl, said she has said hello, responds to comments and questions, speaks nonverbally and is able to write her name. Haleigh can't walk and is confined to a wheelchair.
Avrett, Poutre's biological mother, lost custody of her daughter after physically abusing her. Poutre was put into a foster home where her adoptive parents also abused her. Her adopted mother committed suicide after abusing Poutre so much she had to be hospitalized.
DSS took Poutre into custody and when she appeared to slip into a coma, the agency asked the state Supreme Court for permission to take her life. That's when Poutre began responding.
Poutre has been receiving physical, speech and occupational therapy since January 26 at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton.
Gov. Mitt Romney appointed a commission to look into how the state failed to properly handle the girl's case.
"You didn't vote to kill her but I did!"
"Liar, yes I did! You're the one who didn't vote to kill her."
Hold your nose, ask God's forgiveness and vote Republican.
Old hat, I guess. They're doing Steve Irwin this year.
Still, one does not forget the defaced images of Terri put out by the death-culters last year. The mocking cartoons. The black humor. They exulted in her death. They figuratively danced in the streets. How could they hate Terri so? Even in their own eyes, she didn't do anything wrong except fall ill. But they loathed her and mocked her and put mustaches on her photos.
Some of the trolls who slithered through our threads heatedly denied that they wished Terri ill -- they were just {cough} standing for principle. I don't think they had the stomach to believe their own bull. Certainly nobody else believed them.
Even on this Halloween, their day of rejoicing, they are not back. As Terri's Legacy unmasked and defined them, associated them unmistakably with the side of evil, the contrast exposes them. Furthermore, with the definitions coming from the left, the detractors have no more cover. The mantras are easy to defeat and now are associated with the bedfellows of communism, socialism, loony left dems, and more recently the terrorists themselves. It is hard to pretend one is a conservative with just a different opinion when the bad guys have usurped the argument as their own.
I worked on Adam Putnam's campaign last time. He's so nice. A friend took some pictures of him and he autograped them for her. That red hair of his came out great in the pictures.
Not that I care if they do slither in again :-) They are past tense now. All they ever had going was Greer court rulings.
But that was no case at all. Greer killed Terri Schiavo by simply selecting the evidence he would "allow" and discarding everything else. ALL of his rulings, scores of them, went the same way. I would not be surprised at all if George Felos coached him. Call it what you will -- prejudice, bias, tendency... Indeed, this is so one-sided and contrary to judicial history, one should seriously entertain the possibility that it was cold-blooded murder by a sitting judge.
Sophie Scholl calmly told her executioners: "You will be on trial next." They were.
Greer's reign, too, is past tense, and now George Greer himself is in the dock of history. We can and do look at the 80% of the evidence Greer ducked, withheld, disallowed, skirted past or ignored.
David Baldacci, are you listening? Have we got a mystery for you! -- judge hides behind legal routines and nuances to commit murder most foul. It's a true story. You'd have to fictionalize it.

Hold your nose, ask God's forgiveness, and vote for Lieberman and for Republicans in other races.
The "why" doesn't much matter. It's a vote for becoming chattel slaves of socialists.
Two years of media lies about the Terri Schiavo story and two years of flagrantly rigged polls. But then, what else can the leftist media cite to shape public opinion? Lies, polls, lies, statistics, lies. Otherwise, people do NOT approve of torturing an innocent, helpless, disabled woman to death. What a surprise that is to the cretinoids of the left, eh?
Besides being one of the most pro-life, and conservative in every way senators, Santorum has also been big on helping the poor, according to Mark Levin (on his radio show).
Even Bono called Santorum at his home, because they are of like mind about helping the needy.
So conservatives and liberals (who REALLY care about the needy) alike should all be voting for him.
Been away and missed it.
Just saw on the news that Janet Reno and Bell (?) are demanding that the courts reduce the sentence of a drug dealer. They sure said not a word in support of Terri or the Border Guards.
John Kerry is supposed to campaign for Casey tomorrow.
It must be another Rove mastermind. :)
But how did Rove know? lol
OTTAWA, Ontario, October 31, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The growing push for euthanasia and assisted suicide in Canada threatens the foundations of the country, said B.C. palliative care expert Dr. Margaret Cottle, replacing genuine compassion with an easy reliance on rights.
The concept of medical killing is predicated on the assumption that death is better, Dr. Cottle pointed out in a presentation to Members of Parliament in Ottawa last Thursday. Yet there is not one shred of evidence that people are better off dead. Show me the evidence that the person is better off dead, that the quality of life is going to be better.
Even people who dont believe in heaven or an afterlife claim death brings peace--well, the onus is on those seeking change to prove the benefits of the change. How can a secular society claim that people are better off dead?
Euthanasia? How Can a Secular Society Claim Anyone is Better Off Dead?

TAMPA James D. Whittemore, the federal judge who issued an order allowing Reform Party candidate Max Linn to participate in Monday's gubernatorial debate, was a key figure in the Terri Schiavo case.
Linn made a surprise appearance in the statewide television debate, which was supposed to have featured only Republican Charlie Crist and Democrat Jim Davis.

It seems ironically fitting that I am writing this column on Halloween, the celebrated holiday on which people alter their appearance by donning masks and costumes for fun. Some masquerades and charades, unrelated to Halloween, but instead, related to Election Day, began several days ago, and fun never entered into it.
I will play along with the accusatory liberals and state the obvious; I sympathize with Michael J. Fox for suffering with Parkinsons Disease. Only a heartless cad would not sympathize with him but my sympathy for Fox ends with his disability. Michael J. Fox cannot help the fact that he has Parkinsons, but he can choose whether or not to prostitute himself and then jump on the band wagon of others accusing Rush Limbaugh of exploiting him, when it was Fox, the new left wing media-created victim-of-the-week, who was doing the exploiting.

TORONTO, October 31, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - An alarming poll in the largest circulation national daily paper, the Globe and Mail, asked if conjoined unborn baby twins should be permitted to be born. Astoundingly, 6,648 Canadians nearly 60% of respondents, answered in the negative.
The poll was asked in light of the birth of Krista and Tatiana Simms last Wednesday. Felicia Simms, 21, gave birth to the little girls by caesarian at 34 weeks gestation. Despite their being joined at the head, the twins were born healthy weighing 6.5 pounds each.
