Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre was the victim of child abuse and was nearly killed via euthanasia when Massachusetts officials gave up on her after she entered a coma. Now Poutre, once termed "brain dead" by doctors, continues to improve and is speaking a few words, her grandmother says.
Sandra Sudyka, the girl's biological grandmother, is no longer allowed to visit her granddaughter and now says she is ready to speak to the media about Poutre's condition.
She told The Republican newspaper that she last saw Poutre on July 18 but indicated she was "doing well."
"She was bright-eyed and smiling. She is always responsive to us," Sudyka explained.
Department of Social Services had asked Sudyka not to talk with reporters about Haleigh, but since they will no longer allow her and Haleigh's biological mother, Allison Avrett, to visit the 12 year-old, she said she's going to talk to the media.
"I decided since they broke the deal, I am going to talk. People should know how well she is doing," Sudyka told the newspaper.
"They don't want people to know how she is doing after they wanted to pull the plug," Sudyka said.
DSS spokeswoman Denise Monteiro declined an interview with The Republican but said that the visiting privileges have been suspended, not terminated.
Haleigh first began speaking in June, her grandmother told the newspaper.
"I was saying to her 'I love you,' and she was trying to say 'love' and it came out as a vibration...'ove,'" Sudyka said.
Sudyka, who is working with an attorney to adopt the girl, said she has said hello, responds to comments and questions, speaks nonverbally and is able to write her name. Haleigh can't walk and is confined to a wheelchair.
Avrett, Poutre's biological mother, lost custody of her daughter after physically abusing her. Poutre was put into a foster home where her adoptive parents also abused her. Her adopted mother committed suicide after abusing Poutre so much she had to be hospitalized.
DSS took Poutre into custody and when she appeared to slip into a coma, the agency asked the state Supreme Court for permission to take her life. That's when Poutre began responding.
Poutre has been receiving physical, speech and occupational therapy since January 26 at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton.
Gov. Mitt Romney appointed a commission to look into how the state failed to properly handle the girl's case.

The fight over whether Terri Schiavo should live or die kept much of the world fixated in early 2005. It was a mixture of politics, religion and family feuding that stretched from Florida courtrooms and hospitals to Washingtons power corridors.
The face of Ms. Schiavos brother, Bobby Schindler, appeared worldwide in her final days as he acted as spokesman for their parents. More than a year after her death, the former math and science teacher isnt finished talking.
"Once we accept a standard for killing somebody based on a subjective condition, where does it stop?" Mr. Schindler, 41, said earlier this week in a telephone interview from his office in St. Petersburg, Florida. "I dont know where its going to go. As humans, were called to care for one another, not simply create easier ways to kill each other."
He believes if people did care for one another, they would see his sisters case differently.
He says the American media distorted or ignored many crucial facts about Ms. Schiavos condition, especially her autopsy results. And conflicting medical opinions about her condition should have meant "erring on the side of life."

A doctor saying that more people should have the "value" of health insurance is like a teacher saying that people should have the "value" of higher property taxes. In both cases, the plea is self-interested. It works out to, "PAY ME MORE MONEY."
Let's set aside for the moment all the Republicans' not-so-subtle national security scare tactics of recent years equating a vote for Democrats with a vote for Al Qaeda. And let's ignore all the ugly gay-baiting with which the modern GOP drives its base to the polls. (Stay home Tuesday and, soon, sodomites will be setting up recruiting booths at your local day care!) Hell, let's even disregard all those giant placards featuring aborted fetuses of which pro-lifers are so enamored. (Better still: As I was typing the above sentence, I received an email from gopusa warning: "You'll find this hard to believe, but in California and some other states, a parent can answer the telephone and hear these words: 'Your 13-year-old child died earlier today while having an abortion at Planned Parenthood. We need you to come in and identify her body.'" How's that for illustrative coincidence?) Even if we ignore all that, I still have two words for you: Terri Schiavo.

New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- A research organization affiliated with Planned Parenthood has issued a new report attacking state laws that tell women about various aspects of abortion -- from the pain a baby may feel during the abortion to the medical and emotional risks abortion presents to referring women to pregnancy centers for alternatives.
AGI claims that "false or misleading information that has long been promoted by antiabortion activists features prominently in the information that many states require doctors to provide to their patients."

Of course he is a socialist.
Of course, that is why he says he is a socialist....
This is an out and out LIE! It is bullsh*t like this that makes my blood boil.
That is all they have, LIES, and all they can do is keep recycling them in hopes some will stick. We are the ones armed with facts and they are the ones armed only with lies.
Annoying in the extreme, but I doubt that it was a lie. The fellow doesn't know the facts. He's so far off, he pretty clearly never looked into it at all. "Her husband wanted to let her die" -- gah!! And what does he think a feeding tube is, a respirator? Nevertheless, the writer has the good graces to speak up for the "Bush brothers'" view that Terri should have been protected, even though "legally dead," counterposing it to the Democratic political maneuvering to kill Terri.
Now that I think about it, my wife has accused me of being "brain dead" on one or two occasions. I suppose under these guidelines, some court could decide to cut off all food and water.
The absurdity of calling a feeding tube life support is just glaring.
I won't be watching governor kevorkian's inauguration (dem or gop) on tv. I am not supporting cc because he's capable of undoing any good that Jeb did. He's not qualified and that's that. Oh, and he let Terri die to benefit GOP judge from hell Judge Greer and the death lobby which people still aren't aware of. It has so much power - they are concealing it from Floridians. Wake up, sheepies!

(crist's hero for murdering Terri).
Jim King in the future, "Help me, pity me." Jim King's day of karma will come.
It's so far the only legal way the death-culters have to kill people who are not otherwise dying. The euthanists and lawyers and politicians agreed to define a feeding tube as "medical care" under the law -- for the sole purpose of TAKING IT AWAY. And so the law was amended, not only in Florida but all over the country. To kill "useless eaters."
Michael never gets enough killing, does he? When he isn't busy killing his wife and pulling the plug on his own parents, he's out campaigning for abortionists. Pray for him, this man is lost.
Michael never gets enough bullying and stalking either -- behavior strongly associated with domestic violence. That's what he's been doing out on the campaign trail: stalking and harassing candidates who voted to save his wife's life. ("No good deed goes unpunished.") Michael earned a vivid reputation for bullying his wife, his girl friends, hospital personnel and Terri's nurses over the years. He obviously hasn't changed a bit since the days he stalked Cindy Shook and ran her car off the road.
Btw, we didn't hear any objections from the PETA crowd when Michael murdered Terri's cats. Murder is the right word, isn't it? The vet said he could find them a new home, but Michael insisted on killing them in cold blood.
Meanwhile, PA senatorial candidates Casey and Santorum must be heaving a huge sigh of relief -- they escaped being endorsed by Michael Schiavo!
>>... Schiavo made the announcement at a campaign stop for two pro-abortion Congressional candidates he said his political action committee has endorsed.
>>He indicated he couldn't support either candidate because both supported legislation that allowed Terri's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, to have a federal court review their lawsuit seeking to prevent Michael from killing Terri.
Terri Schiavo's Former Husband Opposes Both Casey, Santorum in PA
As we were just observing in the previous post, Michael is a bully. It's habitual. Great big guy physically -- he loves pushing smaller people around, especially girls. He has a history of stalking women, as he is doing with this Colorado lawmaker. People said he was "controlling" to Terri (that's a modern word for being a bully). Terri was like chattel property to Michael. He kept track of her car's mileage so she couldn't go anywhere without his approval. He told her what she could wear, what she could spend (she earned more than he did!), how she could wear her hair. It was a fight over spending $80 of her own money to get her hair colored that may have led to violence when he got home that night. Something happened shortly after he came home from work -- something that left her face down in the hallway, in cardiac arrest, brain-damaged and an invalid for the rest of her short life. It was, of course, Michael who later cut her life short.
Meaning The King is going to look him in the eye someday. Before then, Jim King is another one in need of prayers, another one who's lost. I know, it's grating to pray for a power-drunk, black-hearted slug like King, but "them's orders" :-) It's sinners who need saving.
>> The horror version was the true version.
It was. On February 25, 1990. In a few moments of horror and pain, a beautiful young woman was left all but dead on the floor. Her assailant was never brought to justice.
Here we have a judge in the weird Commonwealth of Massachusetts who ruled that Haleigh, after nearly being killed by the state child protection agency [DSS], remains the sole property of the same child protection agency. In this way, the abuse of Haleigh can continue. The judge further ruled that Haleigh's mother is not her mother (judges can be very silly like that) and that her mother and grandmother may not visit Haleigh (judges can be very mean, too). Thus a battered small girl is denied her own mother's love.
Aren't we glad for the Massachusetts bureaucracy that makes all these great deeds possible? /sarcasm off
Here are two related stories by psychiatrist Carole Lieberman. Hey, this is fascinating reading. So, read!

Terri Schiavo: Starvation & Dehydration Not a Pretty Picture
WASHINGTON (BP)--Pro-family voters interested in knowing where candidates stand on significant issues can consult a newly released scorecard that shows how members of Congress voted on issues affecting families.
Snip...
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, and Connie Mackey, vice president for government affairs with FRC, noted in a joint letter to supporters that the House recognized the renewed importance of Congresss role in protecting the family by passing legislation that included increased fines for indecency, ... elimination of the death tax, ... and an attempt to halt the court-ordered starvation of Terri Schiavo.
