At first the Russian press described them only as Caucasians which could mean Georgians, Southern Russians, Armenians, or Azherbajanians. Now they are clear that it was our good Allah-screaming pals from Chechnya.

Doesn't matter. All peoples from the Caucasus have a bad reputation in Russia. They all are considered to be likely to be petty (or not so petty) criminals. Georgians are "Christians" but don't have a better reputation.

I suspect the mobs weren't holding extensive interviews to determine whether the victims were Moslems. "Hey, he looks like he's from the South, let's beat the hell out of him." That was probably about it. That's the way mobs work.

It's not just that. Whether criminal or not - the people from that region are very tribal and hot blooded. I had a georgian pull a kitchen knife on me at this local place in Brooklyn :)

No, I'm not. I'm commenting on the assumption that all the victims of the riots after the fracas in the restaurant must be Moslems. I'm saying I doubt the mob cared whether the people it beat up were Moslems. That's the way mobs are. They'll beat up anybody they feel like beating up.

You seem to be implying it is ok to beat up Moslems that were not in the restaurant, who had nothing to do with the original incident. I'm sure you don't mean that it's ok to beat up innocent people, whether they're Moslems or not.

Please don't assume I think that any thing that happened in the restaurant was justified, it was not.
