Uh oh! The secret's out! $:-)
From what you wrote, it was the other 'viable candidate' that wanted coronation, not primary.
I'll be gracious in defeat, as I stated previously. I'm confident Harris will defeat Nelson but if she loses, she has an excellent resume and will easily find work in the public or private sector.
Thanks for the information. I appreciate it. This district definitely needs to be closely monitored.
Hand grenade is closer to the reality. This is gonna be a big bomb. She can do the right thing, declare victory and get out.
Clobbering third-rate candidates with an unspectacular margin. Hardly a victory.
Hey, you can only beat the opponents that are put up against you. Tiger Woods has the same problem.
Nope, she was elected by unimpressive margins, running behind the President, and failed to improve on her initial victory. Her GOP predecessor, Dan Miller, routinely scored well over 60-65% of the vote and ran far ahead of Dubya in 2000.
Maybe she had tougher opponents than Miller had? LOL. McCain did far better than Bush did in Arizona. A win is a win is a win. If Harris was such a pariah, how did she manage to win twice in the 13th District?
I've heard the same arguments ad infinitum, and I've refuted them ad infinitum. KH hasn't won a statewide election in FL since 1998, when she was unknown.
How many times has she lost an election? She seems to win when she is known and unknown. She was also a State senator. You keep refuting and Harris keeps winning.
It won't help now, because she is about the most well-known figure in FL. She can revel in her selfish victory, because it won't get us anything in November. Now that she has her vindication, she should do the right thing and step aside for a candidate who can win... that's what a responsible Republican would do.
Why the personal animus? Harris won the primary fair and square. Now you want her to drop out because YOU don't think she can win. Nonsense. Why don't you use your energy and bile to defeat Ford? Let the voters of Florida decide who they want.
A former IBM marketing executive and vice president of a commercial real estate firm, Rep. Harris earned a Masters Degree from Harvard University with a specialization in international trade and negotiations, and a Bachelors Degree in history from Agnes Scott College. She studied abroad at the University of Madrid and at LAbri outside Geneva, Switzerland. Her commitment to public service has earned Rep. Harris numerous awards, including the Mel Fisher Award for International Trade Advocacy; the Florida Economic Development Council Legislator of the Year Award; the Florida United Business Association Outstanding Legislator Award; the Florida Arts Advocacy Award, the Sarasota Humanitarian of the Year Award and the Sarasota Statesman of the Year Award.
Is this court thing that is sealed, due to become unsealed before General Election day?
It was impressive because of the "dynamics" huh?
It's impressive that a Republican incumbent Senator almost loses election in ALASKA of all places?
Spin however you please, I'm not buying it. If her incumbency was so strong she should have won in a walk in a state, I believe, that went something like over 60% for the President.
Martinez won because G.W.B. and Jeb heavily went to bat for him. Not because of any advantage he brought to the race. If they had done the same for Harris, she'd have likely won. She certainly was no WORSE then Martinez.
But I'm tired of this. you don't like her, that's evident. the Establishment didn't like her either. But apparently a whole lot of Republicans in Florida did.
"I am looking forward to the general election and seeing a few here look foolish...."
I expect to see what every rational person knows what will happen to her in November. I expect more bellyaching from people who refuse to blame the person that made it possible... the candidate herself.
LOL. Just like we should declare victory out of Iraq and get out too?
Howard Dean, is that you?
I think you're thinking of me.
I predicted Harris would win, 40-35-18-7, vs the actual 50-29-16-5. Apparently I overstated the challengers' %s by about 20% each (10 points in total), and understated Harris' % by 20% (the corresponding 10 points). I thought the undecideds would pick one of the challengers, but apparently a lot stuck with Harris.
This from an ally of MoveOn.Org who wants the person elected in the primary election to step down so that someone too cowardly to run in the primary to be handed the nomination on a platter.
Who are YOU going to vote for now???
"I have rarely seen a post that compacts more erroneous information and mistaken belief than your #499. It's a real keeper."
You keep it, because I can actually see the writing on the wall. It's about as subtle as a nuclear bomb drop.
She seems to be unwilling to unzip her own wallet, so far, like she said she would, but then it is unclear how much is in her wallet. She had better unzip her wallet, to try to break say 40%, if things go smoothly from now on, because otherwise, she isn't going to get much in the way of money from anybody else. If she spends a lot, and avoids mistakes from here on out, she might get 45%. That is her upper range. My wild guess is that she will not spend a lot, make some more mistakes, but probably not of the order of those in the past, and end up with 38%. We shall see.
No, I was not thinking of you, per se. But until we understood what was going on under the radar, your numbers were not unreasonable.
Only time will tell, one supposes.
Julie will remember the details better than I although, IIRC, the documents were supposed to be made public this week.
Julie, can you provide more detail as to what the documents refer to and when the judge agreed to release them?
As I said, it is a wild guess. But if Harris breaks 45%, color me astounded.
You think that the Bush brothers had enough political capital to put a shine on a turd like Harris?
They're good - but no one's THAT good.
