If this turns out to be true, and they win the White House, we won't have to worry about needing to convert to Islam. They will do it for us. We'll be doomed.

I agree. And I regret that some pundits are anxious to pander to race and ethnicity in considering prospective candidates.

For example, the imaginary Powell vs. Rice tickets comes down to a crass "my black is better than your black". I know it's not PC and such factors have always played a part in American politics -- but can't we at least aspire to something better?

Dr. Rice? If anyone's interested I'd be glad to give my purely gratuitous opinion on the use of "doctor" in American politics.

In 1995, when retired General Colin Powell took himself out of the running for President of the United States, he was leading every candidate in every poll.

In his years in public service, General Powell never disclosed his political sympathies; he was registered to vote as an independent. Although he was known to have supported the 1964 campaign of President Lyndon Johnson, a Democrat, he had served in both Republican and Democratic administrations.

General Colin Powell is an American Hero and those who would now smear his name can all go to .....

A top/bottom pro-abortion ticket like Giuliani/Rice would be a disaster

Not if Bush gets one more Supreme Court pick. If the Court ever followed the Constitution and "allowed" the states to determine their own laws on abortion, it really wouldn't matter so much what the Prez/VP thought about it.

If Saddam had been allowed to keep Kuwait he would have ended up with all of the western Gulf (non-Iranian) oilfields eventually, whether by outright conquest or by coercive "treaties" - no way could Saudi, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain have held him off indefinitely, and the USA would have found our hands tied by the prospect that any war could have shut down ALL oil exports from the Persian Gulf indefinitely..... when leftists wail about "no blood for oil" then and now they are showing their complete lack of the slightest knowledge of geo-political-strategic realities: let a Saddam control all of those resources and he (1) can build/buy all the nukes and WMDs he wants; (2) can thumb his nose at the west and drive the terms of the world economy because he would dominate the majority of the world's exportable energy.

But they're like the wind, opportunists changing course at the next foul or fair breeze. They smear and de-smear as prevailing conditions dictate ... there is no predictable there there, except their lust for power, and ends to which they'll go and people they'll destroy to achieve it.

I agree .. don't think his ego would allow him to settle for VP, plus I think Alma's put the kibosh (?) on any running.

A dream ticket?

A dream ticket for moderates and liberals. The conservatives would stay at home! Name one useful thing Rice has done as Sec. of State? Rudy is a NY liberal with some conservative traits in terms of law and order but other than that?

I do believe the military personnel who've spent any time where Colin Powell was, would strongly disagree with you.

This would not be in the best interest of the Dem party. Too many people on both sides view Powell as a loose cannon atleast secretly. If he had anything to do with that mess; then that would stick to him like skunk stink and Hitlery can't afford that since she is doing a publicity stunt right now to gain a sympathy vote which is the way the Clinton's always work. They believe sympathy is the only way she could ever get elected.

I really don't believe she can get elected and I really feel like there will be something that comes out which will be her and her husband and their crews own undoing. It will be something that even her most ardent supporters can not deny and finally the Clinton and their kind undoing. God works in mysterious ways.

I think that Powell pretty much let Armitage run things at State while he just presided like some sort of regal figurehead. There were a lot of reports about career State employees breathing 'sighs of relief' when Powell made his welcoming statement after taking office in which he promised 'no major shakeups'. If any place needed to be 'shaken' it was The State Department.

Still, Powell must have known that Armitage was the Source, and should have fired him for improper conduct. Powell was an accessory after-the-fact.

Hmmm...Clarice Feldman gives us another tidbit of infom that might explain some things:

If Fitzgerald has known since January 12, 2004 of the name of the leaker, why is he still protecting him, and why is he treating the leaker’s (that is, Armitage’s) source, who is almost certainly Marc Grossman, former Under Secretary of State for political affairs, the man reportedly the source for the first accusations against Libby and Rove, as an impartial witness to the events? In the discovery process it turned out that Grossman was a longtime friend of Wilson’s, dating to their college days at the University of California—Santa Barbara. Is it likely that the famous prosecutor missed this fact?

Source

More on Grossman at Strata-sphere. Seems he traveled with some cohorts of John Kerry's...Rand Beers in particular...and was the first one to point a finger at Libby. Also some speculation at that site that he personally knew Joe Wilson. It's beginning to make sense now.

Funny you should mention that, I have been posting this for days now:

Kerry Exploring Cabinet Options

An excerpt:

A dark-horse candidate for defense, some said, is Richard L. Armitage, Bush's second in command at the State Department.

Remember...many of the players involved worked for the Kerry campaign. Could Armitage have sold his soul for a potential Cabinet position?

Remember your posting here when the Prez election comes up in 2008, you may have the smoking gun "smoke" to start the blog firestorm investigation that brings down the Hillary-Powell team. I'm going to bookmark it!
