Agreed.
RIP Steve Irwin.
I don't understand either.
Is this how Sui died? Or did she die of old age? If so, did Steve have to put her down?
How can someone not love the joy and enthusiasm that Steve showed while being near the animals he cared for? He will be sorely missed.
I believe his dad is still alive, but I haven't read that anywhere. His mother died in 2000, according to other posters killed by a drunk driver near the gates of the their zoo.
Here is a must-read article from The Weekly - using a tinyurl for a cached text copy of it, because the site itself is overwhelmed and you can't get in. I wanted to excerpt it, but there was nothing I could leave out!

Not sure it tanslates. The closest American archetype I can think of is Bugs Buuny
Thank you for posting that article link. That was awesome! What a tragedy for the world - not just his family and friends.
He was a shooting star that blazed across the skies in mad, terrible, wonderful flight. We all, but especially the naturalist community, will miss him deeply.
Steve understood that humans are as much a creature of the earth as any other wild animal. Wild creatures were his brothers and sisters. He was always ready to play, to threaten, to be very afraid and to thrill at the wonder and beauty of animals.
Steve was a caretaker, teaching us all that only by putting our hands and our hearts on wild things can they truly be understood and protected.
Above all, Steve fulfilled his Masters commandment to go forth and fill the earth.
He filled the hearts of all of us who love being a part of Nature.
