Well, putting aside the 'professionals', I think the appeal to party loyalty has some resonance with the committed 'activist base'. IE, those of us who, year after year, fund the headquarters, walk the precincts, sit on the AD central committees etc.
However, as an objective fact, it is not working with those whose idea of participating in politics consists only of voting (or maybe posting on blogs). If the candidates can't give them something to vote FOR, all of the GOTV in the world won't matter.
