Irq Dominates Santorum Casey Debate
Philadelphia inquirer | 9/4/06

WASHINGTON - In the first debate of the Pennsylvania Senate race yesterday, Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum defended the invasion of Iraq as a war of necessity, while Democrat Bob Casey Jr. argued that he would hold the Bush administration more accountable but was "not ready to abandon this mission."

Irq Dominates Santorum Casey Debate

I'm surprised they weren't talking about Ira.

You can tell Santorum kicked Casey's butt in this debate. If it had even been a draw the Inquirer would have been crowing about a great victory for Casey. Casey barely was even able to look up from his script during the debate. He is a moron.

I think Santorum and the Republican Senatorial committee missed a great opportunity to highlight the difference with the Democrats on SDI, in the light of the successful interceptor test last week. This wouldn't even be on the table in regard to the N. Korea and Iran threats except for the Republican strategic vision and leadership of the past 25 years. Use the defense to go on the offense, the old Steel Curtain way.

I can't watch the morning "Meet the Press" b/c it airs during church time but I caught the replay last night.

I thought Casey was a bloviating, rude jerk. And, in all honesty, I THINK RICK KICKED HIS BUTT!!! One online poll showed Santorum with a "Winner's" lead of 2 to 1 after it was over.

I'd like to hear an objective view from other Freepers who saw the debate.

At the same time, Santorum got a high-profile opportunity to portray the November election as a choice between an incumbent who can deliver for the state and a challenger with soft viewpoints and a willingness to "violate his principles."
Santorum made that point during an exchange over the Food and Drug Administration's decision last week to make the morning-after pill available without a prescription. Santorum and Casey both believe life begins at conception, but Santorum opposes the FDA decision; Casey backs it.

That's it? That's what they debated? Not runaway spending? Not illegal immigration? Not cutting the Federal budget? Not reforming SS? Not making tax cuts permanent?

They debated about a pill? What losers?

Okay. I see it now. I should have known better. It's the author of the article that blew right over the real issues but chose to highlight the issues that would create the most animosity.
