CAIR initially received start up monies from the Holy Land Foundation in 1994, I believe. President Bush shut the HLF down amid much outrage from CAIR. They've been hurting (somewhat) lately after losing a bunch of lawsuits and have requested a large infusion of cash from bin al-Talal to continue their PRopaganda campaign. Nihad Awad has made public statements in support of Hamas.
