As an AMERICAN I would feel insulted if anyone asked me that - As an AMERICAN he should feel insulted also.
I am far from naive, and I'm no idiot. I do not have a "wholesale" trust of Muslims nor any other person on this planet. I had a boyfriend beat me up once, but I didn't go on the rest of my life hating ALL men. I came close to being raped by a black man when I was in college, but I didn't go on to hate all black men. I'm cautious, alert, and vigilant. But I don't wear a cloak of hate. That'd be wrong.
As I've said, I don't agree with Islam, but I also don't agree with Jehovah Witnesses, nor Mormons, and I even have some questions for Catholics. LOL I don't have to believe nor agree with people of other faiths. I just have to respect them. It's the right thing to do, and it's the American way.
They're out there. (For instance.) And I have a big problem, btw, with Freepers who insistently deny this; those who deny wholesale the existence of "moderate" (or otherwise anti-Islamist) Muslims. I have a big problem with those who, out of bigotry (to put it bluntly), would marginalize allies within Islam, while validating a key propaganda point of our Islamist enemy (that theirs is the normative, indeed the only, Islam).
I really have a hard time believing those who spout all the anti-Muslim hatred are or ever have been Christians in the first place.
This kind of divisive inflamatory rhetoric doesn't even resemble the teachings of Christ. It's nothing but hatred.

He spent more time taking to task those who claimed to believe in the true God, yet distorted His teachings.

Thank you. Your voice is a rare voice of reason on this thread. Too many people are saying either "All Muslims are evil terrorists," or "Anyone who has the slightest criticism of any part of Islam is an evil terrorist."
The worst part is, sensible people like us have to take abuse from the extremists on both sides.
I have nothing but respect for Irshad Manji and the tiny minority who are like her. But I will point out that she has to live in fear for her life from her brethren as do Salman Rushdie and virtually every other muslim who shows any kind of courage.
I could care less what the Koran says. I only care what individual Muslims (or any individuals) do or advocate. The Koran could say, "though shalt rape thrice daily," but that's not going to have the slightest impact on my practice of reserving the imputation of "rapist" solely for those who actually commit the crime.
I never said that hating terrorists was wrong. Not sure where you got THAT from, but I never said nor meant to imply that.
I also never called someone a "bigot". But I did say that arguing with someone who has the mindset of an Islamophobe is like arguing with a Liberal. It's a perfect analogy for someone who isn't using "reason" in an argument. I stand by it. How can you reason with someone who isn't using reason in the debate? You simply can't.
It's actually funnier than you realize for you to think for one minute that I'm a Liberal! I'm a Republican, conservative, and I have a picture of President Bush hanging over my desk, right in front of my face. LOL! I am very proud of the fact that every single Republican in our family (all of us, except one Liberal sister), and all of my friends (all Republicans too) would be appalled at the hate-filled comments towards ALL Muslims being posted here.
What inspires any American citizens to continue their allegiance to Islam? And can anyone explain why I occasionally see black women dressed in full-length black attire and head-coverings? Correct me if I'm wrong, but my immediate reaction is that they are American-born and have "converted" to the Islam religion.
I confess my intolerance, but they annoy the h_ll out of me with their phoniness. They'd never trade their American lifestyle for that of a Muslim woman living in the Middle East. They just CAN'T resist the costume!

I wasn't judging who is and isn't Christian. I have no way of knowing, hence my remarks, "if they are Christians..." Going on only my personal experiences and upbringing as a Christian, I know for a fact that our Pastor would tell me that I should repent if I were to be filled with hate. I don't know what other Christian preachers in our country are saying, but I haven't heard of any that are preaching that all American Muslims should either convert to Christianity or be deported.

So then explain to me why so many Freepers gleefully spout rhetoric that increases the risk such people face; that legitimizes the claims of those who threaten them by agreeing that, yes, they're not legitimate Muslims, that, yes, the Islamists are exclusively correct about what Islam teaches?
Why do so many Freepers help Islamists in their crucial goal of denying and thereby repressing diversity of interpretation, of ideology and of life style within Islam?
Show me ONE other religion whose CLERICS are preaching what Islamic clerics are!
Any religion- or followers of a religion- that tolerates CLERICS preaching, condoning, and ordering the violence and death that Islam does is rightfully judged by the acts of those who officially speak for them.
The Vatican wouldn't stand for a priest, anywhere, preaching violence and death in the name of the Catholic church. Nor would any congregation. And if they did, they- and anyone identifying with the Church- would be rightfully judged.
Where is the schism in Islam that would distance the 'good' Muslims from these clerics who are defining Islam erronoeously? Where is the majority in outrage against these violent apostates??

If you knew all men( like all Muslims) considered beating you up 'holy' and righteous-and were taught that- you'd be smart to distrust them. And all black men are not taught that rape is right.
Do you not get that all Muslims have in common a book that ORDERS them to do violence to non-Muslims, and that they consider every word (including those) of that book 'holy'?

The terrorists are, indeed, trying to fight a "religious" war. Or at least in their warped minds they are. Adam Gadahn does not speak for ALL Muslims, nor all American Muslims. Shall we give them a religious war because they want one? We are fighting Islamic extremists. Islamic facists. Islamic terrorists. We are not fighting against the entire Muslim religion. At least not yet....maybe if we keep on trying to brainwash them all into thinking that everyone wants them either dead or converted to Christianity, it could turn into a religious war against all Muslims.
