Because they know that Christians are the majority here, and you can never go wrong attacking a majority in this country. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but the fact is you can get away with saying anything you want in a film about white males and you are fine; ditto Christians, because the self-appointed "watchers of justice" who are more interested in their own self-aggrandizement will be there to rescue such a person from criticism.

Take all the male-bashing that goes on in this country and make it female bashing; take all the white male bashing you see on TV and in real life and make it black male bashing (or even white female); take the Christian bashing and make it Buddhist bahsing.

Then watch. You will see there is a flood of female/black and Buddhist bashing going on. Now, return it to the original definition--male/white and Christian. And calm will return.

A lot of those schmucks also realize that a Christian isn't about to turn around and cut the head off of Hughes.
This reminds me so much of a scene from the movie 'Witness', where teenage tourists were getting so much fun out of shoving ice cream cones into the face of a big strapping Amish dude, knowing that he wouldn't do something about it despite being visibly angry.
Then comes along Harrison Ford disguised as an Amish person.....

It also reminds me of John Cleese, who said Monty Python made fun of Christians because they don't lop your head off if you make jokes at their expense. His honesty was refreshing, and he was making a nice solid jab as Islam.
