Sugar-Laced Agency Airs Acrid Gallagher Ad
The Tampa Tribune ^ | Sep 3, 2006 | WILLIAM MARCH and MICHAEL FECHTER

Posted on 09/03/2006 5:45:31 AM PDT by 8mmMauser

TAMPA - Florida's sugar industry, which has spent millions attacking Jim Davis in the Democratic primary for governor, has now piled in on the other side of the race, helping fund an advertising attack on Tom Gallagher in the Republican primary.

Since Aug. 11, Big Sugar has poured around $800,000 into an organization called "Floridians for Truth and Integrity in Government," which is running the ad against Gallagher.

The ad attempts, with no factual basis, to link an ethics complaint against Gallagher to Florida's crisis in homeowners insurance rates.

The Truth and Integrity committee is linked to and is supported by another committee financed largely by a supporter of Charlie Crist, Gallagher's opponent in the Republican primary.

On Thursday, around the same time its ad began running, Truth and Integrity received $500,000 in contributions from major Florida sugar companies including U.S. Sugar Corp., Flo-Sun Inc. and related companies.

Truth and Integrity had previously received $100,000 from companies associated with Alico Inc., a sugar, citrus and cattle agribusiness, and $255,000 from another committee called the Coalition for Florida Families, an organization funded in part by U.S. Sugar through still other political committees.

Spokesmen for the sugar companies couldn't be reached for comment Friday and Saturday.

Crist is behind negative attack ad.

Why is this 527 Org trying to destroy Rod Smith, the democrat and Tom Gallagher, the Republican by running nasty attack ads against both candidates? By doing so, they are trying to throw the election to the two least qualified candidates, i.e. Charlie Crist (R) and Jim Davis (D) who are practically the Doublemint Twins in their views.

Please read the last portion of the article about Gallagher and the scandal that never was and also, the BIGGEST DONOR to the attack ad against Gallagher is a developer for Crist. GREG EAGLE, 527 Org. Floridians for a Brighter and Better Future. A developer! He gave 1.3 million from his 527 org to the other 527 in June of this year.

Crist is for better futures for developers. Wake up Florida. And, the Trump Condo in Tampa is in trouble. The contractor has filed a lien against the developer and the bldg is named after Donald Trump. There's a work stoppage. Is this Florida's future? Developers low on cash abandoning projects not even half completed?

Florida cannot afford corporate welfare. Who will bail out Donald Trump and his developer friends? Will it be Floridians?

If we elect Tom Gallagher, it won't be Floridians."

"The Truth and Integrity committee".

Sounds like something out of '1984', doesn't it?

The attack ads are against Rod Smith (D) and Tom Gallagher (R). This is Rod Smith.

The smartest candidates are the ones the 527 is trying to take out of the election, Tom Gallagher and Rod Smith.

Have you ever heard of a 527 attacking a dem and a republican at the same time? My theory is that because Rod Smith was a prosecutor, he would get rid of dead weight in Tallahassee and maybe address the corruption we are faced with here.

Jim Davis (D) would be the status quo and remember that Michael Schiavo endorsed Jim Davis. Liberals control Charlie Crist.

With either Crist and Davis winning their primaries, a liberal will be the next governor and the corruption continues.

Their full name is: The Truth and Integrity for Justice in Government.

It should be: (The Lies and Sleaze Factor for Injustice in Government).

Check out Labor Day tomorrow. I heard that the illegal immigrants and front groups for the communists are going to march tomorrow.

Tom Gallagher has an Immigration Plan for the State of Florida and he is against the Senate Bill which grants amnesty to illegal immigrants. He is for legal immigration.

Charlie Crist is for the Senate Bill which grants amnesty. Crist is a counter-republican.

I find it telling how the left leaning media are piling on to support Crist. Another take in the Florida media: Seems the libs like Crist as I posted on another thread...

Gallagher is Catholic, although he sometimes visits the Baptist church to which his wife and son belong. He has run hard as the candidate whose values line up with the religious right on abortion, gay marriage, stem-cell research, etc. Yet that has not been enough to make Gallagher competitive.

Crist -- a Methodist and a bachelor -- has taken more of a live-and-let-live approach on some issues. He would allow civil unions for gays, for example, and although he says he is pro-life, he wouldn't favor passing laws to challenge Roe v. Wade. He also told the Witness in his interview that he did not agree with Gov. Jeb Bush's decision to intervene in the Terri Schiavo case on the grounds "some decisions should be left to God and family, not government."

Is Right Losing Grip On State?
