On Sept. 2, there was a huge rally organized by conservative groups. Veteran's organizations and Protestant church groups made up the back bone of the rally. It was to oppose government's hasty drive to dismantle joint wartime command, which was on the N. Korea's longtime wish list. What is noticeable this time is that sizable number of opposition conservative lawmakers joined the rally. In the past, only a couple of lawmakers attended. This time some two dozen showed up. Presidential hopeful, Park Geun-hye, the former head of opposition Grand National Party, and Lee Myong-bak, the former mayor of Seoul both attended. Their attendance basically made it difficult to dismiss it as an event of old dying-out fringe elements, which has been pinko media's party-line.

Ping!
Wow, this is new... usually it's people toasting american flags or Israeli flags. Goes to show, some people like to burn effigys of Kim Jong Il.
The largest church in the world is in S. Korea.......and it's an evangelical Christian church. Pastor Cho is a MAJOR force in that country.
In 2003, this kind of rallies were held several times. Then government reined on Churches, digging up dirts and doing tax audits. Now that the mood is swinging back, they are back in force. N. Korean missile launches and Roh's insane attempt to wreck the security arrangement to score some residual populist points, on top of already dismal economic condition, give renewed boost to this kind of activity.
He was at the rally, addressing the crowd.
Not surprised. :)
Was this on the news media in Korea? Sometimes they mention the rallies. Sometimes they don't.
Apparently, this was not a headline item. Especially on TV Networks, which is controlled by government or pro-government pinko union. They gave it a nominal coverage.
Hopefully the next President of the ROK.
Hopefully this will signal the beggining of a major turnaround in South Korea and continue the trend of conservative being elected worldwide (Australia, Canada, Mexico etc). Rho seems bent on appeasing the psychotic Dwarf of the North as part of a misguided attempt at reunification. He sounds like the South Jorean version of Jimmy Carter.

Although these are great pictures, I couldn't help but notice that most are older Koreans and very few youth. Anything to be made of this or is of no concern?
Well, these days, younger ones are torn between their pinko past and current reality which vindicates conservative stance. It require a big whack on their head to finally bring them to the right.
Roh and his ilk decisively screwing up the country and Kim Jong-il crashing into flames would help.
Oldies got the initiative back.
I don't think so. Man for man, no ally has ever matched ROK in martial ardor.
Dont worry. Soviet, East German, Czechoslovakian, Romanian TV had to ignore huge anti communist rallies to a point, then the avalanche just swept them out of power. They will try to ignore such huge events, but they cannot for long.
Well, we can at least go back to tolerating each other, which was the case before good-for-nothing Roh Moo-hyun decided to offset his incompetence by periodic incitement of mindless Japan bashing. This pr*ck has to go.
