I can think of more reasons I don't want Rudi to be the nominee than I can think of reasons that I do. But a couple of things stand out about him. He is cool under fire. He believes in Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment: Speak no evil of a fellow Republican. Can we say that about McCain? As for his liberal social positions, while you are holding your nose in the voting booth, ask yourself if you would rather have Rudi or ANY Democrat?

He has/is spending plenty of time in the South so he can get enough southern votes to supplement the Northeastern and Rust Belt nomination votes that he is very likely to get. Throw in a few from the West and he is the nominee. The biggest danger is conservatives split from the Party and Shrillary is elected. God forbid.

Obviously, you don't know the south. He hasn't got a prayer. On social issues, issues that matter most to most southerners, he flunks big time.

That's pure bunkum. Running for politcal office and winning elections are hard-boiled human endeavors. Politics isn't for the faint of heart. The catch phrase "11th comandment" was a political slogan invented by California State GOP Chairman Gaylord Parkinson in 1966, and was a theme employed by Reagan in his run for the GOP nomination for Governor against liberal San Franciso Mayor George Christopher.

It was also a rule that Reagan broke during the 1976 GOP campaign for President. Reagan criticized PresFord and attacked his weak economic policy throughout the entire primary season, and even into the GOP Convention. Reagan may have been a gentleman but when the political chips were on the table Reagan was one tough SOB. Ford found out how tough Reagan was in 1976. Reagan almost upset a sitting POTUS. America wasn't quite ready for Reagan in 1976. And I don't think the GOP`s conservative base will ever support the nomination of liberal Rudy Giuliani.

"Speak no evil about a fellow Republican"? You do realize Rudy backed Mario Cuomo for Governor the year Mario lost to George Pataki. Evil enough?

With respect, I think there are more options than Rudi. I admit that someone has to step up and announce their intentions, however its too soon in the process to say Rudi is the ONLY republican option. While Rudi might beat Hillary what are we conservatives getting? A pro gun control, moderate who isn't opposed to illegals or abortion. He would be against any more social welfare reform, and would side with the rats on more issues than any serious poster here could tolerate. As a national party, can we do better than Rudi? The one lasting effect of the Bush administration will be his supreme court choices, which will be damaged by the confirmation of moderate jurists that Rudi will choose.

Yes Hillary is a dangerous choice for president, however Rudi would only be a slight improvement, and this Conservative demands better from the RNC.
