CBS) LAKE FOREST, Calif. A man was arrested after spitting at an anti-illegal immigration protester in Lake Forest then running away from pursuing deputies.
At about 8:30 a.m., a man allegedly drove past a rally at Jeronimo Lane and Orange Street and spat at one of about 40 protesters gathered at the corner, according to Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino.
When sheriff's deputies caught up with the man and stopped his vehicle, the man exited his car and ran as officers pursued him.
The suspect, 24-year-old Hugo Maldonado, was discovered to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was charged with resisting arrest and having an outstanding felony warrant.
Not motivated by correctness, but rather a zealous protection of my house. If in error, I humbly apologize.
However, if the statement gave just one potential bigot in our wide audience a reason to pause and reflect before posting, then the risk to my reputation and the consequences of a perceived, personal slight was justified.
FreeRepublic is a staunchly conservative house. But the actions of one are used by our political enemies to reflect on the many. To discredit the message by tarnishing the messenger. We are conservatives. We discriminate but we are not cultural bigots.
5'2"? Some liberal judge will say he's just too small to be in jail.
Who the hell are you and what are you babbling about?
According to history virtually all (but 10%) of the native population of Galicia (in NW Spain) emigrated to the Americas by the end of th 17th century.
Although Cuba was the major destination for these folks, many emigrated later to Mexico.
I'd lay odds this guy's an illegal or his parents are.
However, we are not yet forced to adhere to the standards of the Academy in Madrid, so it's "Mexicano" here irrespective of what those guys do with it.
Creating bigotry out of whole cloth like you did here doesn't serve the forum well either. Actual bigotry gets tossed quite quickly.
Sounds like a cross of Al Sharpton and the Dem's "it's for the CHILDREN!" mantra.
Just in case you read a post of mine and find a "descriptor" in lower case, its because I have no RESPECT for either the person or group involved.
It is not nor is it ever a racial slur, in my case. It is however done to marginalize or express my disgust with them.
And that's a UN decision!
Thanks for the English lesson, however...but there is at least one of us here who just have a low regard for criminals who come into our country illegally...and those who have promised to kill us all....I will not offer a speck of respect to these people.
We exercise "cultural bigotry" against France and the French all the time here. mexico and mexicans do not deserve to be treated any differently or be given any special treatment here or anywhere else. Your PC BS does not serve you or this forum well. Cram it.
The term Mexican , just like the terms US citizen or American has no racial implications. Mexicans, as a clustered geopolitically or geographic group, are racially classified as a subset of European Caucasoids by anthropologists.
The US has adopted that standard. Hence the use of the category, White other than Hispanic , on US government documents ascertaining race, national origin or ethnicity.
Use of the term Mexican, as a racial classifier, has only recently entered the US lexicon, introduced by those bent to divide. The factional misnomer of race associated with the word raza, when crossing over to English, was tolerated by the ignorance of its users, permitted by the freedom when interpreting regional language idioms and purposely bastardized to promote the political aims of cultural separatists in their new, host country.
Yes, unintended mistakes do occur and unique personalizations are encountered, but members of this forum need to take care. Spoken or published words can never be taken back. They can only be defended or rationalized.
I substantially agree with the quote. The examples presented, however, both French and Mexican, were geopolitical and not the subject of this discussion.
I also suspect that if the Spiff account entered into a dialogue with a US citizen of either French or Mexican ancestry, the values of the respondent would be ascertained, not assumed.
While I don't approve of what this man did I don't think he should go to jail for it. I do, however, think he should go to jail if there is a warrant for his arrest. If you want to be an outlaw you have to stay beneath the radar. Like upchuck said, that wasn't very smart.
The bigotry was in the broad denigration of all "Mexicans," rather than just the low-class ones who tend to come here illegally. I have known some Mexicans who could fit into the best society in America.
I have a Mexican godson, for crying out loud. His parents happen to be Mexicans, but are here in the U.S. ..LEGALLY....they went thru the process....I love them all like my own family.
I cannot muster up any regard or respect for illegals, no matter where they came from.....and I will not show them a small amount of respect that putting a capital letter at the beginning of their names would bestow upon them, or the group of people they belong to.
Thanks for not publishing them.
