My daughter had an accident in Bolivia ten years ago. We spent 16 days in Santa Cruz before she could return here. The 5 star hotel was $45 per night in a city of 800,000. There was a large US community and we were told you could live like a millionare for $20,000 a year and live well on $10,000. With satellite and computers, you're not so cut off from your world.
Shopping and dining were quite good and a taxi was less than a dollar. Other than the tragedy we were living, it was an enjoyable experience. The hospital care was deemed quite excellent by the doctors here. By the way, Retin A was only $5.00. All drugs were over the counter.

Was your daughter's medical cost in Bolivia expensive? And what was the quality of care like?
