GAMLA Editorial - No voice in Israel

Sometimes, in life, a person will have strong feelings, but no way to express those feeings.

Last night, some 40,000 Israelis showed up at Rabin Square in a demonstration in support of Israeli POWs held by Arab terrorists. The major TV channels carried the event live.

As fits such an event, every effort was made not to allow politics to take the stage. This is, one one hand, positive. On the other, it is leaving the gut feelings of the Israeli public without a voice.

Idan Zak, a youngster approaching his army service, agrees. "It's frightening," he said. "They always told me the army does everything to get its POWs back. That is no longer true."

Shlomi Gvili, a friend of POW Eldad Regev's, said: "Since Madhat Yosef was abandoned at Joseph's Tomb, the state has undergone an ongoing moral deterioration that must be stopped."

The 40,000 who showed up, and the hundreds of thousands more who watch it on TV feel bad. Something is going on, and a voice has yet to come out and say it.

We, at GAMLA, have been saying it for years: The left wing instinct that "peace is always better than fighting" - is immoral!

It is immoral since it just delays the fighting our younger generation will have to fight, at a much greater price.

Madhat Yosef was left to die, alone, at Joeseph's Tomb, since PM Ehud Barak made the calculation that soldiers would get killed if they went in to save him.

The "spinners" explained that Israelis cannot stand to see the deaths of their soldiers.

Everything is done in the IDF to keep sodiers safe - even to lose a war. Even to allow a ruthless enemy to regroup and re-arm. That is why Israel hoped for an "air war" - so that IDF soliders would not be hurt. That is why the hesistated to call up reserves. That is why it took weeks for a ground war in Lebanon.

In the end - this is not only immoral, but bad strategy. The left wing "hopes" that by delaying, something will happen, some European "plan" will save us. George Bush will be replaced by some democrat that will "bring peace".

As of now, GAMLA knows that the several protests must be apolitical, that "concerned citizens" must have their day. This protest will lead to the downfall of the government, and to new elections.

New elections must find a new voice, a voice not afraid to say that the war is here. It has been declared against us, and we must fight in the best way we see fit. We cannot continue to gamble on our children's future. No more lapping up expresso while allowing our enemies to grow in power and courage. No more shutting our eyes while the truth is clear.

We must be this voice!

I recall the incident at Rachel's tomb, where for the first time, the Israelis left a soldier behind, and I posted about it a few years ago.
