Harris is indeed not a "beltway boy". Which is exactly why her campaign has been subverted and undermined by the Gop since November of last year, when Karl Rove himself stated "she can't win".

As we all know, that lie has been parroted endlessly by every sycophant since that time.

She will win the primary. The GOP machine be damned.

I posted this info on another thread at the request of another FReeper:

When Katherine Harris won statewide election for Secretary of State with 54% of the vote, Republicans represented 40% of registered voters.

In the FL 13th Congressional District 2002 and 2004 races, Republicans accounted for 48% and 46% of FL District 13 voters, respectively. Katherine Harris won each election with 55% of the vote.

If I were still in Florida, I would enthusiastically vote her and support her in any way possible PRECISELY because she is so fiercely independent and has conservative attitudes on the issues that make the most sense (plus she is not a lawyer like two of the others). Funny the article mentioned the GOP chairman of the state saying she can't win as though that statement had any significance whatsoever. I thought party chairmen weren't supposed to meddle in party primaries and undercut their own members. And then who ever heard of candidates calling on their opponents to withdraw from a race for no valid legal or ethical reason?

Harris is likely to win the GOP primary and will then be soundly defeated by Bill Nelson. The criticisms of Harris's behavior by GOP officials and former staffers are well founded, unfortunately. Those criticisms have come in a torrent not just from party officials, but from staffers and consultants that she picked and hired but then alienated.

Most of the staff types are sensible, reliable people, hard Right in their politics and genuinely dedicated to the GOP. Their various breaks with Harris commonly came due to duplicity and aberrant, abusive conduct by her, not as part of a grand conspiracy to do wonderful little Katherine in, as she seems to see it.

We all know people who are superficially appealing, but who, on close acquaintance, prove to be false or peculiar in their conduct. Harris is of that type and is a misfortune for the GOP and conservatives. I truly wish it were otherwise, but in politics as in most everything else, there is nothing to be gained by denying the faults of leaders.
