I can understand your feeling of paranoia after that purchase. I own several long guns from inheritance and private purchases. About two weeks ago I purchased a rifle at a Wal-Mart as a gift for a buddy of mine. They took my SS# and got on the phone as I filled out a long form. After the clerk got off the phone I asked her, "What was that about?" She told me it was to the FBI and that no 'flags' arose so the sale was OK'd by them. I jokingly said, "Good, that means I got away with it." I was informed that sometimes, as the Feebs check further, things pop up and they contact the purchaser. For the next couple of days, I jumped whenever the phone rang. Mind you, I'm over 60, did my time in the Navy and have never been arrested, yet I was concerned with what they might 'find.' One bad keystroke by some faceless bureaucrat anywhere in any agency and I might have gotten that call or not been able to make the purchase. As it stands, I'm going to have to get a notarized bill of sale when I give him the gun in order to protect myself if he sells it or it's stolen.
Sometimes I'm glad I'm old and gonna die soon.

I hope you live much longer - being 60-something is young these days. When you mature at 90 you could even be appointed judge in one of our courts! At any rate, your firearm may prolong your life the way things are in these times.
