By JOSEPH L. GALLOWAY
The president's news conference this week was as close to a declaration of policy bankruptcy as anything seen so far in his stewardship of the 3 1/2-year war in Iraq.
With his poll numbers still down around his ankles and even some key Republicans questioning the wisdom of staying the course in Iraq, President Bush flatly declared there will be no withdrawal of American troops before noon Jan. 20, 2009.
I believe it was Will Rogers who said when you find yourself in a hole the first thing to do is quit digging. The president knows he's in a hole and he's still digging furiously and promising he won't quit digging. Ever.
What kind of sense does this make?

Hey. I've been carrying on an email dialogue with this idiot for some time now. He has responded with six emails so far, and he is becoming more and more insultive with each one. I have not sunk to his level, but just presented a case for an alternative point of view. I think I'm getting to him and he is starting to crack. I plan to keep up the emails until he goes away. I have the patients of Job. I can keep this up for the entire tour my son is serving in Iraq.
I am with you 100%. Galloway was nasty to me immediately, likely because I made a harsh scathing attack on his article. I probably should have approached it as you did but I let my disgust of the anti-Bush crowd get the best of me. I have a son in the Marine Reserves based out of Green Bay and he volunteered a while back to be deployed. They haven't called him up yet. I wish you and your family the best and appreciate what your son is doing for our country. I was a vietnamer and my dad served in WW2 so I grew to appreciate our freedoms here in America. I only wish the anti-America crowd would leave the country to us patriots.
I send my highest regard to you and your father. I hope the service your father gave during WWII is not now going for nothing as these jihadic appologists fail to see the connection between Islam and Nazi Germany. Galloway responded again with another personal attack. I'd like to post all of his emails so that people can see what we face here at home. He had the gall to acuse me of making a personal attack against him in my original email, when I attacked his position regarding Iraq. He resorted to insults and accusations rather than deal with my comments about the war. He can't win an open debate and he knows it. If anyone knows how one can post the series of his emails, please advise. I have not figured out all that can be done on Free Republic.
"Most of American are not getting the whole story of what our troops and the brave contractors are accomplishing over there because good news does not help the Ill-Liberals trying to regain their petty political power at the expense of our soldiers lives."
You nailed it right there!!!
There is daily factual refutation of his slimy lie that all our forces are doing is driving around in tanks waiting to run into IEDs. That is a complete fabrication and insult to our military. Zarqawi's death by surgical strike was just one example of hundreds of operations done, day in and day out, to take out insurgents. We've killed or captured thousands this year alone.
Moreover, no acknowledgement of the real progress in standing up the Iraqi army, for example the fact that 5 divisions in the Iraqi army now are 'in the lead' and that the Iraqi military as a whole with soon commence to have its own command. There are over 200,000 trained Iraqi security forces, and they are getting better every day.
The media constantly reports the half-empty part of the story and not the half-full part, leaving a distorted image of what is going on and how to win.
Yes, and Joe Galloway appears to be a leader in distorting the truth His email address is below. Please email him and let's all swarm him with the truth.

He appears to enjoy getting my emails as he can't stop replying (though, with inane stupidity).
"The only piece lacking in Pres. Bush's plan is an overt engagement with Iran and Syria who are providing not-so-clandestine support to our enemies within Iraq. A take-down of the Iranian government is in order for a number of reasons."
"Oh, I don't think that piece is lacking in Dubya's plan at all. He didn't make that "Axis of Evil" comment nearly four years ago for no reason."
I agree 100%. Regime change is needed at some point. OTOH - It drives me crazy to hear these inane comments about us not doing anything wrt Iran, when John Bolton is daily pushing UN (kicking and screaming of course) to get international consensus on action, and when we have Iraqi Army units now engaged against Mahdi Army, and when it's DoD and Bush administration officials telling us what Iran is doing.
Likewise on Syria, it was Bush administration prodding that got Syria out of Lebanon in the "Cedar Revolution". The Bush administration was out in front on preventing Syria from regaining influence in Lebanon, etc.
Bottom-line, I've come to the conclusion that our biggest internal enemy is impatience. The Liberals are impatient with body bags and want to bug out; the war-mongering right-winger types are impatient with diplomacy and want to start new fronts in the GWOT before we've secured Iraq.
I've always felt that we could only engage Iran when Iraq was secured and felt that Iran knew this and would use Iraq as a distraction, like they did with Hexbollah/Lebanon. But it's a matter of time. In 1-2 years, the Iraqi armed forces will be much more capable of patrolling and pacification, hat our armed forces will regain operational flexibility',
to either withdraw or further make in-theatre gains.
This is a LONG WAR. We won't win in 1 week or even 1 year. We need to take the LONG view. We will deal with Iran on a long-term, fundamental and permanent basis.
"He's not saying to cut and run...he's saying that there needs to be a change in strategy in Iraq by building a professional police force to control the insurgency."
We've been working on building the police forces and other security forces since 2003, and for him to ignore/discount what has been done already on this front is a sign of either ignorance or a Bush-basher who doesn't want facts to get in the way of a good rant.

Yes, while our enemies have an abundance of patience, which has been reinforced by the Ill-Liberals in this country who keep blathering about "redeployment" (cut-and-run) and "we were lied into war".
Because I was burned by his "Read My Lips" old man and I really doubt "Shrub's" commitment to the war in that he's shown me other inconsistencies (unlike my "hero" President Reagan)...
The solution in Iraq is simple: withdraw through Iran all the way to Afganistan.
I agree, provided we flatten each mosque along the way and offer the conversion to Christianity or Judiasm as the alternative to the fairy tale the inhabitants of those countries now believe.
Find it odd how you ran around for the last two weeks screaming Hate Rummy Talking points and now suddenly the Democrats are pushing for a Vote of No Confidence. So are you just this politically inorant or are you actively working for the Democrats?
Fool or Fraud?
