There are two compelling reasons why Iran might desire nuclear technology. First is the fear of America, second is the need to preserve precious gas and oil for exports.
To prevent Iran from acquiring nukes two steps would be needed: first to provide security guaranties from USA, second the help combined with international supervision in development of nuclear electric plants.
Using military force against Iran is out of question, because Iran is too big, not enough isolated internationally and USA cannot afford another big war (yet still such war might take place)

Iran cannot be ignored any more than Hitler could be ignored. Despite whatever the expense, it would be cheaper to take out Iran now.

The third, of course, is that the regime in Tehran wants to continue to export their theology and terrorism, as evidenced by funding Hamas and Hezballah. A nuclear umbrella would enable them to do this.
Is it your position that to risk this is prudent and wise?
