ISTANBUL -- An unusual type of swimwear is standing out on Turkish beaches this summer -- Islam-inspired swimsuits -- which buck the trend of the past 100 years for swimsuits to get smaller.
Turkish businessman Mehmet Sahin has designed what he says is the world's first Islam-inspired swimsuit and sells head-to-ankle bathing gear to devout well-heeled Muslims, including the wives of Turkey's leading politicians.
"We are the preferred firm of the conservative politicians' wives," he said in an interview, referring to members of Turkey's ruling AK Party, which has its roots in political Islam and came to power in 2002.
His brightly-colored women's swimming costumes look like shiny track-suits with stretchy hoods, while the racier models are like cat suits with a separate overall to cover the curves.
These costumes are a throwback to the type of swimwear worn before Australian swimmer Annette Kellerman invented and wore the first one-piece swimsuit in 1906. She was arrested in the United States in 1907 for wearing the one-piece suit that showed her arms, legs and neck.
Sahin sold 40,000 swimsuits last year and expects to beat that with 50,000 this year.
"Now, when you say swimsuit, what do we understand? Bikinis or small trunks ... Perhaps in 10 or 15 years time when you say swimsuit, [mine] will also come to mind," he said.
Well soon see the designer getting a fatwa for this...
Now there's some bathing beauties to die for.
High bone turnover in Muslim women with vitamin D deficiency
Objective: To measure bone turnover in Muslim women with vitamin D deficiency.
Design: A cross-sectional study of a random sample of Muslim women aged 2065 years, evaluated over a 6-month period from November 1999 to April 2000. Tested were 146 women living in an urban community in south-western Sydney with adequate opportunities for sun exposure.
Main outcome measures: Bone turnover and vitamin D status
Results: There were 81 (68.1%) women with serum 25OHD levels < 30 nmol/L (defined as "severe" vitamin D deficiency). Fifty-five (46.2%) women had evidence of high bone turnover (urinary DPYD excretion > 6.5 nmol/mmol creatinine). No significant differences were seen in their ages, menopausal status or serum calcium and phosphate measurements. The risk of developing high bone turnover was significantly greater in the women with "severe" vitamin D deficiency
Conclusion: High bone turnover and severe vitamin D deficiency occurs in veiled Muslim women with vitamin D deficiency.
Wow, what a pretty lady. Feel so bad for her being forced to do that.
I think the issue behind this is not religious itself... the fact that most muslim women have bad body figures, the suit will rid them of embarrassment.
Bravo... Excellent!
Actually, very nice "gams" (legs, for those of you in Rio Linda) and she has very nice skin.
That's a great picture but a bit behind the times. John F'in Kerry was modeling this 2 years ago!!! Here's the pic

That women beating beaten by men at the turkish beach for wearing a bikini is just the begining for Turkey's move backwards towards the 12th century.
Does anyone one know how the rating numbers are for the current Turkish government who are pushing an islamic agenda that goes against the Turkish constitution?
Does it look like they are going to have a long reign or out on their asses in the next election?
I don't see how Turkey will be joining the EU anytime soon with their current path they are taking.
Face, hands and feet. She better watch her back or off comes the head. Piss on Islam.
Heck, as long as we're talking sports - they could have Middle Eastern women swimmers wear those things with various small weights varied among athletes so they could have parimutuel betting.
Wanna start the "Daily Aquatic Infidel Racing Form" with me?
What's worse? With or without?
Its sweltering hot in Turkey have the year. Those women are going to dying wearing outfits like those at the Turkish beaches.
I've heard that in countries like Egpyt and Turkey, where many women can and do dress more casual in public, (jeans, tops that show arms, etc) that its become "trendy" to dress more islamic.
I bet many of these turkish women buying these suits never set foot on the beaches before, but now they are going to start struting around the beaches like attention whores saying, "Ohh look at me, I'm soo islamic looking." Blah-blah-blah. Just don't go whining when the government adopts Sharia law, your now banned from the beaches, and your husband/boyfriends become more extreme and start beating you for not acting like a slave, murdering your daughters to regain their non-existent and will never have any honor.
I am not a public nudist, however I love skinny dipping "alone/private" and also cannot handle anything sticky.
Let em wear clothes in the water and see how soon they sink.
I will continue to swim in my BD suit in private.
That is just "too creepy".
