Niamey: see no evil
The Senate Select Commission on Intelligence noted that in 1999 Joseph A Wilson had also been sent to Niger by the CIA and there has been much speculation about the purpose of that trip.
Now we know. His keen powers of observation were put in out nations service to check out reports that A. Q Khan was traveling to Africa to purchase yellow cake uranium, something of which he seems to have found no evidence. From opinionjournal.com

Both trips sponsored by the CIA.
Damned curious
A second trip to Niamey later in 1999..not on the CiA's dime--this time on the dime of Saudi international (OFF scandal) Alamoudi.http://www.americanthinker.com/articles.php?article_id=5702
There's also the question of how Wilson knew about the apparently forged Niger document. The CIA believed it was a fake. Joe's wife, being in the nuclear proliferation office of the CIA, probably would have known about it.
He skirted big trouble before the SSCI when they noted he calimed to have seen the document before we got it when he phumfed about and said he must have been mistaken..HEH
Was he an Ambassador at these two times??? or was he in business with Alamoudi, the terrorist moneyman and sympathizer at this time? They SHARED an office address. I think Alamoudi has been deported now.
My head hurts......can ONE person PLEASE put this info in a BOOK!!!
He was in private business in 1999. The 2d trip in 1999 was with Alamoudi on a business trip. The first was for the CIA again on his wife's recommendation. He was supposed to check out reports that AQ Khan was buying yellowcake in Niger. He didn't see nuthin'.
When he said it was a FORGERY, NO ONE had even SEEN it yet!!! hmmmmmmmmm.
Is it even LEGAL for a private citizen to be ASKED to do this, travel on behest of the American Government?
Yes.
