Fox reported the other day that the terrorists in Iraq are now killing bakers because they are using ingrediants in their baking that were not used during the time of Mohammed. You just have to shake your head and hope it doesn't explode.
The "insurgents" in Iraq (we know them to be terrorists but the media doesn't call them that) are jihadists (and often times are NOT Iraqi). It doesn't suprise me that they would try to oppress the locals using religious law.
America was founded on religious freedom. We saw how WWII was fueled by religious intolerance (the seized Jewish properties meant money to the Nazis) and racial/religious supremacists (Aryan Germans, Shinto Japanese).
We may not be able to exert much influence if we let a conquored nation establish their own replacement government but tolerance of other faiths must be a concept brought to muslim nations. They war with Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, and Christians and even other muslims over faith. And the laughable United Nations does nothing.
