WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the Bush Administration's admission that they have failed to serve local law enforcement:
"The police chiefs are right: Severe Republican funding cutbacks to local law enforcement and the COPS program have led to increased crime.
"The Bush Administration, through the Deputy Attorney General, today admitted that 'there are many needs and desires on the part of law enforcement that we have not been able to serve well.'
"In fact, the Bush Administration and the Republican Congress have cut $2.2 billion from state and local law enforcement since 2001 - a 46 percent decrease from 2001.

when the cat is away, the mice will play... Yeah, its our fault for not spending enough money. Personal responsibility... what's that? I really hope the dems win in november so I can pay more taxes... weeee /s
Silly me....I thought that more criminals led to more crime. Back to school for me.
This from the folks that say the answer to crime ISN'T enforcement.
My understanding was that funding had gone up for DHS.

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.
I don't believe this. Nothing ever goes down in Washington, DC as far as spending is concerned. Ms. Pelosi probably means the Republican Congress hasn't increased spending for law enforcement as much as she'd like and the chiefs, too. But spending NEVER goes down in this town. UP is the only direction.

Hey Nancy, how about if all Americans get licences to carry concealed. Crime will drop a lot then.
... which runs counter to all the available crime data for the last several years if memory serves me correctly
but I thought fighting terrorism creates more terrorists so conversely shouldn't less crime fighting create less crime Nancy?
They pull the same thing with the Veterans Administration Budget. While the VA Budget has nearly doubled since Bush took office, any budget item not funded to the requested amount is considered a "Cut". It works on the Demasimps.
Ask the people in Atlanta and Houston what drove heir crime up. They will tell you pretty quick it was a hurricane named Katrina that washed up a crapload of Democrat voters.
If this cutback is true, then it is good news. I don't want the federal government involved in state and local law enforcement; the entities need to remain separate or else tyranny will eventually result.
Principles are often sacrificed to keep the money flowing.
Why is it the Feds problem that localities do not fund what they want in law enforcement? The Dims are all about having somebody else take care of them instead of taking care of themselves.
Pelosi is the same fool who asserted that abortion had reduced the crime rate ... a Forrest Gump wannabe. What a wonderful head of your Congress she will make don'tchaknow.
"Bush Administration's admission that they have failed", I wish the Republicans would take a page from the Democraps and never, ever, ever admit to doing anything wrong !!!
You know, Pelosi--if there weren't as many people buying the democratic theme (mostly under the radar) of some kind of guaranteed standard of living for all, there wouldn't be as much crime.
This woman is nuts!
(And butt-ugly. Quite a package.)
Well. lets see, now, as 399 cities and 8 states have resolved not to cooperate with the Patriot Act and many of those cities refuse to help enforce immigration law, it looks as if they are seceeding from the union and won't be elligible for matching grants any longer.
